The key is getting value. If we signed Ozil and Babbel on stupid money than as long as that turned into results, promotion and even greater revenue than thats fine.

I see your point though. Its risk vs reward and MM put the club in a position of Premier league or bust. We need to avoid doing the same, but just because someone costs money doesn't mean we shouldn't sign them - just means we have to be more or less certain of a return on the outlay.

That return could be split between increased attendence, league position/prize money, TV revenue, image rights, resale value ect but we need to ensure a return on our investments in players.

Obviously signing a big name on massive wages with no resale value and who is perhaps less motivated after playing a higher level and is on his way down the ladder is much more of a risk. But again, just because someone comes with a price tag then it doesn't mean we should dismiss the prospect out of hand if the 'probable' as opposed to 'potential' return is likely to be greater.

In all honesty, it's about building a team, not a group of individuals.. look at Manure for instance and the amount of cash they've wasted since Fergy retired, Investing heavily doesn't guarantee results, its a 'team' game, you get a squad playing as one and bobs ya uncle. 2008 being another fine example of what can be achieved by a team and club pulling together in one direction. Let's not get carried away here, some sensible affordable acquisitions will improve us with a sprinkle of quality thrown in.

We seem to be linked with every player who is in Turkey and is either out of contract or not getting much other than warming the bench. I think it is the agents hoping for something. Almost all we have been linked with would not add anything

Also any so called star would bust the existing wages and create discontent in the dressing room.Acun is a shrewd business man and I do not see him paying stupid transfer fees not high wages at this time

Personally feel you could level the same criticism maguire gets to about a dozen of their squad, but because he sticks his head up for England gets a disproportionate amount of blame.

Loving the fact that ManUre haven't a sporting direction and are being run on the lines of an investment comapany though. Long may it continue...

I just don't think a lot of the players realise that in every sporting sense they'd be better off elsewhere.

The ones who want to be there are there to coin it on superstar contracts. They expect the Maguires, rashfords etc to carry their water.

Not exactly ideal for team solidity and they'll win **** all under the current directorship - cos they want (and assume) control but know **** all about the facets of football.

It’s why I cringe when I hear us being linked with the likes of Babel and Özil. Yes, we need a better quality of players and that will cost money in terms of transfer fees and wages but I want it to be sensible and sustainable. I’m glad Acun has rubbished the Babel and Özil rumours.

Absolutely, said just as much on our podcast yesterday, I really hope this summer is a sensible one. We can easily improve the quality of the squad without becoming unsustainable and jeopardising our future.

Stoke are underwritten by their owners. Think they just recently converted a huge chunk of debt into equity, so they'll be fine.
