If he comes back next season with a decent attitude and wants to actually be a pro then he has the potential to be one of the best players we have. From what I've heard from people up there, something's changes with him recently and he's a totally different player and person. So hopefully the penny has dropped
Yeah he’s obviously a talented lad, maybe just got a big move too soon, not helped by the bad injury either to be fair. Hope he proves me wrong because he looked like a competition winner for the most part last season when he played. One of my mates was delivering him takeaway a few times a week in League 1 lockdown season
GOAL Hibernian 4-0 St Johnstone James Scott - hat-trick A hat-trick for James Scott! And this is the best of the bunch! Josh Doig whips a deep cross in and Scott plants his header across the keeper with inch-perfect precision.
He did a really honest interview and it appeared like the penny had dropped with him. I really hope it has, but he'll need a big pre season
Did your mate see him eating them or could they have potentially been for his housemate and or GF? The lads had some issues and wasn't mature enough to deal with moving by himself to a much bigger club etc. Then add in the freak injury on his second day I think it was and then COVID hit. Add it all together and it's a perfect storm that he didn't deal with. He's still only 21 ( of the top of my head ) so hopefully this season and everything it's taught him on and off the field can be the making of him as he's basically a new signing for us next season and the potential to be one of the best imo
The great thing for him is that Shota & Peter haven't worked with him so he gets to come in and make a brand new first impression. I've just had a quick look at last goal, he's a touch overweight but he does look a fair bit broader than he was.
It just goes to show, give a player a run of games, then you see what they can do. Bit parts here and there, you just cannot judge.
It just seemed to make sense given I thought he always looked overweight/unfit when he played. When you add in the Hibs manager calling him out for it too… Not disagreeing with your point though, hope he comes back firing because evidently there’s a player in there as a hat trick is impressive irrespective of who it’s against.
I don't think that's entirely true. McCann never had the option to play Slater, though he did want to sign him. Given Doc's form, I'm sure he'd have made the same decision that Shota did. And Shota never really had a choice with the left back situation; Elder was injured when he came in and Fleming played well from day 1. McCann always played Elder because he was doing well as our number 1 left back. Fleming had a lot of injuries and struggled to force his way in until Elder was unavailable. Similar to what I've said to Kalman above, I think that's harsh re Wilks. McCann didn't really have many options to drop him but he did leave him out pretty much whenever he played the back 3.
Interesting game today in Turkish Super Lig at 17.00 on BEIN Sports, Fenerbahce v Fatih Karagumruk, Alekandar Pesic playing in the lone striker role for Karagumruk, hopefully we go back in for him again this window. Could also be a couple of potential signings for us on the bench for Fenerbahce.
The goalkeeping and defending by St Johnstone is a joke. Still, a hat trick’s a hat trick, so well done him:
I think I've mentioned him before, but I'd love us to sign Ryan Porteous, I think he's one of the SPL's best centre halves. He's had a bit of a rough season at Hibs due to some very **** team mates, but he's great on the ball, very calm and collected and he's great in the air too. Would probably cost about £2m.
I think a fully-fit James Scott with a bit of confidence is a decent option to have as a number 9. He’s never really had a good spell of games playing as a striker here. Still think we need a couple of strikers in the summer since Eaves will probably go, Forss is going back and Tyler Smith hasn’t done much. I actually think Scott is a better option to have than Eaves, Forss and Smith anyway. Unless Hibs offer a seven figure bid, we should probably keep him.
This is first-hand proof that "one going in off his arse" is indeed sometimes all it takes to get a misfiring striker scoring again.
Why will Eaves probably go? He's had the opportunity to leave before when he wasn't playing and chose not to. If Wilks is having his option triggered as Shota suggested last week then surely Eaves will too? On Scott. Would he really be any worse than Forss?
Wilks has value, we'd still probably get £300k for him at least, he was worth £2m+ 12 months ago. Eaves on the other hand does not.
He's little tubby watching those videos but he's a real unit now. In a few years time he could really be a force to be reckoned with in the championship, he's big, quick, tricky and can use both feet. He should've had a 4th too. Granted the standard's not great but there's not much difference between that and L1. He needs get fit over the summer and come back in pre season flying.
