Baz has started to drip feed stuff

Hopes of signing David Fofana on a permanent deal from Chelsea fell down late on Friday evening when it became clear the player preferred a move to Hoffenheim, though that didn't materialise either, and then a last-ditch attempt to bring in Deivid Washington from Stamford Bridge also came to nothing.

So we went in for Fofana as well it seems.

Moore
Thomas-Asante
Bosenik
Conway
Cannon
Stansfield
Fofana

Quite incredible to have such a long list of strikers we're known to have missed out on, in most cases because they preferred to go somewhere else.

it’s hardly surprising that Hull doesn’t seem an attractive proposition. None of the pundits fancied our chances or have predicted we will be challenging for a promotion spot, and at this stage not even the most optimistic City fan would bet their mortgage on that happening based on what we’ve seen so far.
That may be different come January but equally it may not. However if it’s not, then I fear for Walter’s position.

Not really that incredible at all, look at the players above, what they went for ( both fee and contract wise ) and where they went ( if they went ) and ask yourself.... Honestly why would you come to us. We really aren't the attractive proposition that we all wish we were.

It's not as if players don't come ( just look at the numbers we got ) but to take that list and call it incredible is a tad disingenuous when there's quite obvious reasons why

Apologies for the partial double post but I realised this bit below belongs more on the transfer thread than the Leeds match thread.

Now that the window is over, I think CM is going to continue to be our achilles heel. Looks like we're going to be relying on a 20 year old who's only appeared in 50 games in Columbia in his senior career. Then a kid who's only just turned 21 who's only played 41 senior games, 34 of which were in the Columbian 2nd division. Then a kid who's also just turned 21 who had played in 40 senior games, 37 of which were for Stevenage. Then there's Simons, another 21 year old kid, who's amassed a total of 28 senior appearances, as with the others including sub cameos, 12 of which were for Fleetwood. Then there's Slater. Or back to square pegs in round holes. Absolute madness.
CM is absolutely critical. Most of the talk has understandably to a degree, been about missing out on a 3rd 'top quality' striker, but I fear where the club has really ****ed up with signings is in CM. Promise and potential yes, but, and I hope to hell I'm wrong, do we really see a combination of those players dominating the midfield in the Championship?

Zambrano is looking promising. Which means of course he will get banned and we will be ****ed.

Absolutely agree, but it would be nice to think that our brains trust might not just identify who's available and good enough, but also who might be interested in coming here.

Moore and Thomas-Asante we know were interested, but got better offers at the 11th hour.

Sunderland are top of the league with the youngest squad in the league.

Ok, let's look at their midfielders.

Jobe B. A special talent. Nearly 19. However, already has 72 senior games, and 27 England caps (through the ages to U20) under his belt.
O'Nien. 29. 223 games for Sunderland. Almost 400 senior career appearances.
Browne. 29. 377 senior appearances. Nearly all for Preston. 35 senior caps for Ireland.
Neil. 22. 131 championship appearances.
Ba. 21. 101 senior appearances, 68 with Sunderland. 35 France caps (through the ages to U20)
Samed. 24. 103 senior appearances. 19 full caps for Ghana.
And I can see they've also signed a couple of inexperienced young uns with potential.

It's like night v's day compared to us!! We can hope and pray that somehow our midfield spine make it and start bossing games. Sunderland instead of hoping and praying have very sensibly built a midfield that near enough ensures it, with proven quality & experience for this level, sprinkled with (not built on!!) a dusting of high potential youth. I fear our brains team have massively ****ed up in this area, and we're left with hoping and praying.

Thanks for suggesting Sunderland, could hardly have been a better comparator to make my point.

Sunderland have won more games this season than they did from january to may i think
They were shocking 2nd half of last season

But with a clear plan of talented younger players
Who will take time to get up to speed

We ****ed up massively in january
We now have some younger players

Lets hope they also get time
Will they under acun?

Our constant short termism has been a hinderance in 2 and a half years

January was an absolute disaster for us.

Also alan browne on a free is a masterstroke signing
Something we should have done
Hes played like 90% of championship games for 8 years

The only overhanging part of it all. Thankfully it doesn’t look like too many of them are out on international so hopefully after a small break Walter can get them up to speed

Palmer jamaica, honduras and nicuagra
