A great example of why stats can be misleading. He gets himself into decent defensive positions, but he has no appetite to really win the ball back, he's going through the motions.

He’s in the 99% percentile for tackles out of all wingers in the league. He also averages more tackles per game than any of our players.

I usually find Philogene to have a great work ethic for tracking back and doing the defensive stuff. It's the split second defensive actions where he sometimes goes blank. Like the Southampton game at home and the WBA equaliser.

Jaden doesn't do the defence work well enough to be played as a winger. He gets into the right defensive positions but too often ducks the challenge or gets beaten by his man, and we know he's fast and good with his feet, the defensive stuff just isn't in his game - which is why I don't think we'll see him leave this summer.
You’ve got to be joking? Jaden works incredibly hard defensively, I always notice him running back getting a tackle in.

Which is not particularly unusual for any attacking player. He gets an unfair rap due to his nonchalant demeanour.

No definitely not, I just mean individual moments like that stand out because they come at the worst times, but I completely agree that generally speaking his work rate and tracking back are great for such a flashy winger.

Also I think Giles and Philogene just need more games together, when you think about it Philogene isn’t really a byline winger, he’s always going inside so really it should work, Giles going outside and getting crosses in and Philogene inside drawing out players and making things happen.

Any of the relegated sides will pick him up, we'd have to offer him substantially more than his ability would earn him for him to seriously consider us over the likes of Sheffield United or Burnley.

But with Acun in charge, you never know.

Tommy Conway at Bristol City would probably cost less in wages and with him being just 21, would provide better value for money in my opinion. They're similar players in terms of ability, Szmodics just had the better season.
Sheffield United have Cameron Archer, Hamer both of whom play Szmodics position... even with parachute payments theyre up against it with salaries... if they hadn't have been promoted in 2022 they's have been f'd then, salaries not being paid etc...,

Spending £4.5m on Giles without a system change would be poor business imo. His stats have shown that we don’t maximise his ability with how we play.

2021/22 - 10 assists in 32
2022/23 - 12 assists in 48
2023/24 - 1 assist in 17

I thought Giles worked well when Coyle was on the opposite side as Coyle would tuck in as the 3rd CB and Giles could stay wide. When Coyle got injured and Slater had to play right back we had to change system as Slater couldn’t do what Coyle was doing. That’s why Jacob was preferred towards the end of the season as he could play LCB and Slater could move into midfield.

I’d like to see someone like Chambers brought in at right back, he’d play that role brilliantly and allow us to see the best of Giles going forward.

When I saw a link I thought I was going to open an article about a club in talks to poach him.

Tan no longer going to 1904 event, seems legit.

Utterly bizzare.

If it's true then even I think it's the wrong thing now, but I also did say after the Jan window play offs where expected ( from what I was told ) and It seems it must have been true.

Acun has got himself in a mess then. He's continuously said he's patient and not in a rush and even gave Rosenior a new three year bloody deal. We'd just started looking better in April and players were joining and improving under Rosenior. What an absolute shambles.
