I really don't understand this undervaluing of Greaves. Then again, it's no doubt the same people that said we should've sold him to Boro as we'd never be offered more than £7m for him.
I have just heard a rumour he's going for 15m but hopefully if that's the case it's with some relatively easily triggered add-ons (appearances, staying up, etc.)
I think on pure merit it's hard to argue he's not worth a record fee for a centre back at this level. The one thing that I worry might prevent that is the state of the market. If PL clubs aren't spending big this summer, like they didn't in January, then we might lose out.
I think the PL not spending worry has been grossly exaggerated. The January window is always tough and it's hard to move players on but the summer is a reset and a new FFP year.
Baz seems pretty confident that Giles is happening.. in his words "The deal is agreed with Luton". Almost as if it was locked in all along. Willock sounding very likely. Prutts thinks Szmodics would be available for 5m. While I'd be staggered if that was the case, if it was possible that'd be a tidy bit of business.
As it seems at least one of the 2, Greaves or Jaden will leave, which like Brentford we have to accept to sell and then recruit wisely. I could see a similar deal to Jaden with Villa being done with Man City for De Lap.
Where has all this "need to sell" come from? Speculation? What if the biscuit man's sponsor was worth 10 mill. Does that not help or is that not allowed to be counted?
I think they do apply a fair value estimate to sponsorship otherwise an owner could just give a mate a load of money to sponsor the team as an 'unrelated party' for a huge amount. I'm not convinced we need to sell, but if we want to improve the squad we probably need an injection of funds.
We got £2m for Allayhar? I never saw a figure for him, assumed we basically just got him off the books. He cost us £4.5m though didn’t he?
Tend to agree. Was a bit surprised Prutts thought we had a shot. Think someone like Stansfield would be a better aim even if just on loan.
Giles is a funny one really. He’s clearly very capable going forward. Maybe next season he can be deployed how Slater was at right back with Coyle playing more defensive, again though IMO it’s a large outlay on someone who’s been outperformed by an academy graduate since he joined
