There was Pennock before though, so maybe we're reading too much into Baz leaving - but then it's difficult to imagine him not having reservations about the owners Allsop comments. I would if it was one of my team.
On the other hand, one of the best preseasons was under Hateley. He declared that we had set our standards and must maintain them. Then we played the first match of the new season at Mansfield…
Absolutely and it was all about the lack of finishing, but my point is that the exact same things that were said then are being said now before we've even played our first friendly. People were saying that we had a dodgy keeper, Tetteh was useless, Macca was making mistakes etc. We actually had a good season last year by all accounts; the transfers were great, the style of football while not pleasing on the eye for some did produce some fantastic plays and while we fell short of the playoffs, the fact that we were even in the race to start with is an impressive fact that many fans seem to overlook. To go from 15th to 7th in one season is nothing to be baulked at.
We need to stop this "instant gratification" attitude that's become endemic among our fans, we need to be patient and have some trust in what the club is doing. We can't expect to magically see amazing football when we've got a new manager, a whole new coaching staff, a brand new playing style and what will be a raft of new players coming in.
That's not to excuse any poor results mind, because I what I would expect is that any players coming in should be ready to play in the Championship and be effective, but the team's performance as a whole at the start of the season should be taken in the context of events this Summer.
What in the last two and a half years makes you think they now suddenly have a plan?
We’re already on our third manager (4th if you include McCann), under their leadership.
The signing of players has been at best erratic, and at worst brainless. The majority of players have been flops and the few gems they have sourced we’ve failed to retain. Whilst our best academy products have been sold without resistance.
I like Acun’s passion and enthusiasm. But ultimately after 2 and a half years of heavy investment and 30+ player transfers, we have a worse squad than the one that got promoted from League One.
Give us them back then you ungrateful sodUnderwhelmed by all of this tbh. I don’t see how morphing into Hull City is going to help us survive in the PL.

Replacing a manager = no plan?
McCann was replaced following the takeover. Shota simply had to go after ending up being a poor replacement. Rosenior was a gamble that largely paid off, but for where Acun wants to take the club and for the excitement he wants to see, Rosenior fell short in the end. He backed him though, for obvious reasons and was disappointed that we went backwards after rolling the dice.
It seems to me that he's now backing Walter. I'm failing to see how this means the club don't have a plan...
As for the signings, we've just finished 7th and have prem clubs snooping for our better players. Much of our dead wood (which every club has) is on the way out. Some of the fringe players and loaned out players get a new lease under Walter, along with anyone we bring in. Some signings haven't worked out, but I wouldn't describe our transfer windows as brainless.
If anything this squad rebuild will be taking place in order to line the squad up with what Walter needs in order to compete. Whether it'll work or not in the long run is anyone's guess at this point, but none of this means the club has no idea what it's doing, has no plan, nor does it mean we're in a cycle of constantly binning off managers... Not yet anyways.
We haven't kicked a ball yet and I can't believe for one minute we'll kick off the season as we are right now. Neither can I believe wheels aren't turning in the background and haven't been for some time.
I don't like stupid phrases like 'bed wetting' and stuff like that, but some of the criticism is starting to get a bit ridiculous now. People have their guns loaded, and the ammunition is largely just conjecture...
Oscar coming back to be sold.
Acun will get bored.
Acun forgetting about us for Fenerbache.
Walter must be regretting his decision.
The new squad's going to be ****.
Acun picks the team.
The club can't spend anything.
If you throw enough ****... Baseless throwaway statements end up becoming gospel over time and I think it's a large part of the reason people are reacting so vitriolically to not having signed a full squad by early July.
Concern is acceptable bearing in mind there's a big job to do, but there have been some absolutely embarrassing overreactions too.
Bollocks mateI just don’t care. Think it will end in tears. Hard to remain optimistic considering how poorly-run we are as a club.
I do remember a few people telling us how delusional it was to imagine Greaves would go for a lot of money, they seem strangely silent now ...
Just for the record - I didn’t say we were bringing back Oscar to be sold. I said we were bringing him back to take a look at him, but if he didn’t fit in then he would have some resale value.Replacing a manager = no plan?

Good
TBH I'm totally relaxed about it all, I'll review my thoughts come Sept 1st.Here's to common sense.
It's not that we can't acknowledge that it's a difficult job to sign a squad's worth of players and have them ready for the new season, but it doesn't mean it's some kind of impossible, never been done before task either.
Reading social media, you'd think the season started tomorrow.
Only because if push came to shove and we were in an isolated area in the middle of nowhere and we needed to resort to cannibalism Dennis would be first in the pan because he’s been marinating for years. Medium rare for me.Only cos I’d have stashed us plenty of drinks!

For context, this time last season we had signed Xavier Simons (sometime in March so doesn't really count) and Liam Delap and that was it until Lokilo arrived on the 18th July.
I encourage people to read last year's Summer transfer thread for context.
Yeah, I watched us play Partick Thistle away that season, think we won 3-0 and looked good.
