Definitely could turn out to be a missed opportunity. At the same time, all the signals are good:

- Made a lot of great signings, all of which fit our long-term planning
- Had money to spend on a deal beyond those that would have nearly doubled our record transfer, and nearly pulled it off.
- When that deal fell through, we didn't panic and throw money at whatever dross was surplus to requirements somewhere else.

There's a level of genuine confidence about our planning (as opposed to "relaxed and confident", that kiss of death) that is quite reassuring. We know what we want to do, and we appear to stick to it.

Yes, I do agree. And for all the talk of Broja etc, he only scored 6 for us last year - I'm pretty confident Mara would score at least that, given the same amount of minutes.

But there's something about this season that makes me think "could have".

It does sound like Saints are going to try again for Gakpo so I do think we have a shot at him in Jan.

Yes he only scored 6 in the league but the talent is clearly there.
