Roy Shiner played one season 1959/60 as you say. Oldham game was April or thereabout,1958 because the start of the next season I started to go and watch them.

Roy Shiner sat next to me on a bus from town and he got off outside Stan Lemans on Anlaby Rd and went in for a hair cut.

That brings up further memories for me John. My maternal grandparents lived on Spring Gardens in Anlaby Common, and granddad used to take me to City when I was 9-15 years old (North stand immediately behind the goal). Stan Leeman's was his barber too, and he used to take me there for my trim about once every couple of months. Apparently it's still a going concern - hopefully not impacted by the current covid-19 stuff. Used to hate getting my haircut, and once the Beatles appeared on the scene I refused to go with him ! My ma wasn't too happy about that. Neither was school come to think about it .<laugh>

As we discussed before I lived down Spring Gardens, we took the number 9 bus which went from in front of EYMS garage to North Road.Jonny Stephen's was often on the same bus as us.

Sorry to say that Stan Leemans is now closed and because of the implications of Covid 19 will not reopen, I had used them since the early sixties and had never been anywhere else likewise my son who is in his forties had never been anywhere else it is the sad end of an era for us.

That is very sad news. Lots of collateral damage with this bloody virus.

Does anyone on here know anyone who’s died of it? I mean actually died of it, not died in a car crash or similar and Covid was spuriously entered on the death certificate.

Asking for a friend...

I believe that it’s very real & has killed a lot of people....but the response was a massive over action. But, what choice did BJ have? Very few known facts, had to be seen to protect the population....however in hindsight.... I’m sure the response would have been different in most countries...

Have to agree with you! Also in my opinion, the media have a lot to answer for in all this, their negative scaremongering has made it 100x worse then it needed to be
