We did have one year options on Lichaj and Irvine, but obviously decided we weren't happy to keep them on the existing terms.
Also the fact the four can’t be arsed to play the last 9 games says a lot an all. Hardly putting them selves on the shop window are they.
I would say that’s releasing them then. Semantics, but we had a choice to keep Lichaj and chose not to. Let’s hope that’s the right decision.
Which is worrying as neither of them were on more than £10k a week. We're already pitching well below the average wage in the Championship, we're now offering wages around the average League 1 salary. I liked Irvine and Lichaj, the former was a decent acquisition and was a solid player. Lichaj lacked pace, but he was reliable. Both will be missed.
I think it's a waste, though, as he has played his best football for us in CM. While we're overloaded with options there, it feels daft to play him out of position if it weakens our midfield. I'd rather Pennington played RB, he's looked alright if not spectacular.
he's wasted in that position though. I think the first match I saw him was him playing in that position and I thought there was a lot more he could do in the middle of the pitch.
They would only be able to play in 2 games anyway before their contracts ended. I'd rather stick with players who could play all 9
It's McCann's decision not to play them until their contracts expired. I think if they were willing to accept short term deals - and risk injury before looking for a new club - then McCann would have played them.
I agree. Apart from Lichaj the rest have been poor. So we’re not actually much worse off except for losing a bit of squad depth. Maddison has been a complete waste of space. Kingsley was **** and I’m glad he’s out the door. I’ve seen goal posts move quicker than him.
Yes we did but it appears the club didn’t offer that extension and instead tried to negotiate a one year contract on reduced terms (according to Phil Buckingham). I guess the precarious nature of footballers’ contracts just now encouraged our Ehab to play hard ball. And of course, he ****ed it up.
Pennington did a good job when he came in at RB.... for me, Wilks will not be a miss at all... We can all crow and say were in trouble, but I guarantee almost every teams forum will be saying much the same... wherever we end up next year we have the two lads at Cheltenham to come back to bolster the back four and a half decent squad which needs one or two additions... and a new manager might help a lot... ... lets remember, some clubs will be very very very close to the edge financially after the last 3 months and we are probably now a more attractive proposition for a sale than before lockdown.
We have Kane, Stewart, Batty, Toral, Lopes and Honeyman. 6 players vying for 3 CM positions, not too bad in terms of cover. We also have Bonds and McKenzie that can play there.
