Looks like Szmodics is off to Bristol City on a free (though they'll have to pay compensation).
Hope we weren't pinning all our colours to the mast on that one.

He's on 18k and been offered 8k
Most academies take from 6 now. Which I don’t agree with.
Academies will invite players down to one or two training sessions a week at under 7’s, while still playing and training for their grassroots teams. Once the lads get to under 9’s they can then sign academy forms and would cease to play for their grassroots teams. I personally think kids should be left at grassroots teams until they are mentally mature enough to deal with rejection well, my lads 6 and a few of his teammates go to city training sessions, i rejected the chance to take my lad to further tournaments at city with his grassroots team as its not something i want for him at this age, but other parents have different views.
My daughters quite mentally tough and i took her to an academy at 10 when i felt she was old enough to deal with the academy environment, thriving and has been reccomended for england national camps, suppose it depends on the child in question and how they deal with things mentally. I dont think you should ever be having a conversation with a 6 year old telling them they arnt good enough.
That would be quite exciting - if the squad were likely to get any benefits from it. Oh well.......................James Smailes @James_Smailes
Daily Mail reporting this morning Manchester City could break the £75m world record price for a defender by signing Harry Maguire, that would mean a huge cash windfall for Hull City.

How much exactly is a 'huge' windfall ? I thought we only had a relatively small sell-on clause
If he goes for £75m, we get £8.7m (15% of £58m).
Totally agree.
Man City have an ‘Elite’ under 5s squad that train at their academy 3 times a week..
Its big business now, and seems the academies leave no stone unturned, in my opinion i think its abit of a meat market, id be intrigued to know if any academies have support structures to deal and help with the ones that arnt deemed “good enough” . The books ive read suggest not, and some of the fall outs mentally from rejection can be quite severe, i really think the FA need to implement and enforce all academies have adequate support structures for kids that are released.

I don’t think that clubs should be taking players until they are about 10.
