They can earn £75k here, if they're good enough. We have players earning close to that already. The flip side to your argument is why would a player who is settled here, perhaps with a young family, want to uproot his whole life just for a few extra quid, which will make very little material difference to his life (indeed, there may be fewer first-team opportunities and a reduced prospect of getting into the national squad).

Did you even read what I said? <doh>

Whatabout overall though .

Here .

Danni = £85K PW

Gaston = £65K pw

at the other end of the scale = £15K pw ( REGULAR first team player )

Shaw is / will be gone ! ( MAN U HAVE offered him £ 85K PW ) that will only increase if he does not get injured .............

I hope A L stays , but I fear the worst .

I hope they ALL stay ( Bar Danni )

Well those players won't have these moves available to them anyway.

They haven't offered him anything actually, unless you're alleging nefarious practices on their part!

I appreciate a flip side view as I do that all the time myself.

I just think some saints fans are just a little a head of things. The 75k they may get here (I don't believe that now, depending on how it's reported) would then potentially be nearly doubled. I see the point about young families etc, but doubling your salary overnight is a massive incentive for some people. As for the international point of view, I don't think that you really believe they have better chance if they stayed here... if they go as good players (eg Shaw/Lallana) I would bet their international careeer would be enhanced playing regularly for a big club.

We spend most our time bemoaning the top teams players getting selected.

The papers today are full of "Shaw to Man U" done deal coverage. Why? Well it seems that Luke added some plea from a Man U on his twitter page to join them to his favourites- briefly. Well that is conclusive them..not.
The video link which TSS reposted recently shows Luke saying that he ignores it all and that the papers know nothing. The fact is that nothing has changed since then, bar the potential transfer value and his odds of first-team football. So of it was just the money he would have gone already and would not have signed such a long contract with Saints. And the first team footy- he has that already. I am not saying he won't go, just that there is no indication from a credible source that he wants to go and Saints don't want to sell him... So maybe he won't go?

Yeah, but look at the likes of Ashley Young, Lescott, etc, who made their names at smaller clubs and now find themselves out of the picture because their rich clubs can afford to leave them out or replace them with a bigger name. Who's to say that wouldn't happen to Shaw or Lallana? Whereas here they would probably get the opportunity to play themselves back into form.

**** this site .

A considered response there.

Look, I'm of the realistic view (if they offer 30m and him 85k p/w he's gone) and also the view that there doesn't tend to be smoke without fire. I think there's enquiries been made and I rather suspect that the sum total of this will be Luke in the rainy capital of the UK next season. That's what happens I'm afraid - they're still a huge club that can offer more in terms of finance and realistic potential - not to mention international recognition.

With an *old* head on, do I think it's the right move for him at the tender age of 18? Well if he's going to be a first team regular at United, then yeah, probably it is. And it's a LONG way from being the end of the world for us too. It's a great deal all things being equal. Of course it's going to be difficult to buy world class players for us, but a couple more Lovren's wouldn't go amiss, and we'd have a fair bit of change too.

I know we all have high hopes for where the club is going - me too, absolutely - but we probably need a little realism here too. 85k a week at 18, playing for the multiple champions. Come on.......

There are some touchy people about tonight.

1. This is a football forum to discuss football
2. Lots of rumours that some of our players may leave (Shaw in particular)
3. Some people are discussing whether he'll go or not and what that will mean
3. Hardly anyone has said they have accepted he is going.

Chill.

It's ok to discuss the possible departure of some players.

Absolutely - it might not be the right move for him. He may not suit the club. He might get very homesick. It may not work out.

None of that means he won't be ambitious and take the move though....

If Joey is correct and his agent connection has been talking with Man Utd then you'd have to conclude that a sale fee has been agreed in principle. There is nothing to stop sides from discussing transfers outside the window.
I'd be disappointed in the club if this proves to be the case for a couple of reasons

1) Surely we should not be distracting our players or potentially compromising their commitment this season by allowing transfer talk.
2) If it is £30m then I doubt we will better it, but it does feel like we've accepted the 1st offer and we should probably leave it longer to see if any other clubs show their hands. After all Chelsea and City will have squad quotas to hit

Jasper & Joey are long term posters and have no reason to make stuff up. Appreciate sharing the information guys. Only good news next time <cheers>

I'm touchy that you have two 3s. How dare you!

And it's not like footballers to ever be self-assured or ambitious so they'll definitely stick it out in mid table.

You KNOW that to be a fact do you ?

Because I don't .

Come on mate, I didn't say that did I?

Unless United are breaking the rules, for them to talk to him they need to have had an offer accepted, which just doesn't chime with what the board are saying about "no big player departures".

Well in that case, nothing to worry about.
