Said it before but where they are is remarkably similar to where we were under Kat. Popular owner dies and dependant inherits who probably doesn't have quite same passion (nothing wrong with that). Things continue to go well for a well due to an initial commitment and then afterwards momentum before gradually stagnating and dropping off.
Think he's talking next season. I'm inclined to agree and think we'll finish above them as they're in a mess financially but only time will tell.
Plus the FA Cup and PL wins have given their fan base some delusion that they are actually a relevant club, when in reality they aren’t (like every club outside the top 5 or so). So their fans aren’t taking it well having the norm restored. What does protesting actually achieve? Are there any examples of it actually getting an owner out of the club? If anything it probably makes them more likely to stay as any offer will be low balled as “well the fans want you gone” will be the new buyers negotiation stance. Biggest one I can remember is Blackburn and the Venkys are still there, what 15 years later? Utd with the Glazers as well and they only sold recently and not due to protests. Protest if you want, it’s your right to, I just don’t see any evidence of it actually achieving anything.
I got the impression it kind of worked at Everton. But yeah I accept your point, it often changes **** all. I think protests at least may force their hand in to throwing the fans a bone or at least as a minimum communicating honestly with them.
You might be right with Everton. From the little I know Moshiri went in with some Russian guy who had his assets frozen so couldn’t invest anymore and that’s when Moshiri wanted out, the protests may have played a part but I don’t think they were a huge driving factor. In fact Everton are very similar to our current situation where they had an owner (Moshiri) who pumped in loads of money (Solak) but had a football team running the club who consistently spent it on **** (Kraft/Ankerson). My Everton mates all wanted Moshiri to stay and have a better football person advise him due to his chequebook (sounds familiar), but I think it became clear that it wasn’t his money in the main when the Russian bloke (Usmanov?) had his assets frozen and the money stopped coming in. Moshiri was more a front man because I think there was some issue with the Russian guy owning the club outright or something.
Yeah I am. They may be in a better position this season, but we’re still all ending up in the same place next season. And we’ll be in a far better position at that point. Plus they may well have a deduction to add to that - I can only imagine the uproar here if we added that to the SR list of crimes. Real and imagined.
