You are avoiding the points. This is about democracy. The UK voted to leave the EU. The UK Government elected also on the foundation of Brexit wants to deliver what was voted for = To end that continued EU involvement in the UK's economic and legal matters even after the end of the transition agreement period.

The UK voted to free itself from the EU, not to continue being a colony. And that is what opponents want. The UK to continue to be a colony rather than democratic and independent.

However we voted - and for whatever the reason, there's no way back now. We HAVE to make it work somehow.
What I fail to understand is - why can't we simply IGNORE the Irish border and let the EU erect one if they want? Let THEM build a border and go through all the hassle of managing it!

Think the Government is daring them to do it. Its a negotoating tool. The Republic and UK dont want it. You do it or come up with solutions with us instead of what the EU do. Clever move??

Sounding like a pantomime act. You did it again. Yes you did. The point is about democracy and its associated control and sovereignty. As it was leading up to the 2016 referendum and ever since. The border is not the real issue its the EU continuing to want to exert control over our democracy and its sovereignty even after a transition period e.g. the EU and its courts to continue ruling on aspects of customs, law, trade and state-aid issues in the independent United Kingdom. The border is the EU's card and the Government has decided it will not play the EU's Empirical game.

Britain voted to cease being a colony of the EU. To be a free nation, not to be bound to the EU for a undefined time (forever). It is about far more than a border.

Currently there's lots of 'posturing' within the negotiations, let's just see where it all ends up.

the negotiations within the EU have always followed a similar path as RP says posturing … the EU pre Covid wanted to be a federal state run by unelected "leaders" with subordinate committee's [ elected country governments] like a roman bridge the keystone of this was the UK …
A NEGOTIATION HAS 2 SIDES each side wishes to win or come out with what they want [ ideas might be both sides have similar thought on how to … ] but wont go down without a fight so "threaten" or posture ..

Of course Honda moved because of Brexit. Most of the Civics built there are exported to Europe so it made sense to avoid paying the import duties that were feared at the time the decision was taken.
I suppose the chaos at the channel ports are nothing to do with Brexit either?
Nothing that has happened to date has convinced me that Brexit has been of any benefit to our nation whatsoever. In fact, it’s the biggest own-goal we could possibly have scored - it’s an absolute disaster, but thankfully for the Brexit supporters, Covid came along just in time to take some of the blame for the dire situation we have created for ourselves.
I don’t expect any Brexiteer in these boards or elsewhere to understand.
Despite my utter fury that my way of life and my retirement plans have been scarred by Brexit and I’ve been stripped of my European citizenship against my will and against the will of 48% of everyone who voted, I DO respect the referendum that seduced so many people to ‘take back control’ and really sincerely hope that one day I’ll be proved wrong. Just like I hope to one day win the lottery.
If that ever happens I’ll be on here eating boatloads of humble pie, but it won’t happen. Brexit has been, is, and will be to come, a f-ing disaster that will rip the UK apart and turn an independent England into a second-rate country who everyone else laughs at - or tries to squeeze by way of apology for our colonial past.
We think we’ve escaped the control of the EU? Have we fk. They now have more power than ever before over us and there is NOTHING we can do about it.

Actually I’ve just thought of ONE Brexit success - it’s given RP and 1for a subject they can agree on. Not worth ruining our economy for though.....

I didn’t like the Brussels regime and I was looking for a way out. However, all I found was a great ‘unknown’. Nobody knew what Brexit meant right here on the ground. They still don’t.
I chose better the devil I knew - and lost.

There was no exactly with the EU. I never understood what the EU exactly meant for myself and my family. I do understand in the industry I work in my wages are depressed due to the EU.

Did people in poorer areas of the Country understand that lack of control over immigration would have the consequences it did for their communities?

Areas like Dagenham have undergone change that the residents could hardly have understood or ever predicted. What Brexit can mean is that now there can be better control of the negative consequences.

Those controls the EU would never concede. Free of the EU Britain can now reinforce the nation state.

Big turn around in union membership. Manufacturing has been ****ed over and jobs gone abroad with working class membership dropping like a stone in unions, white collar membership has gone up. like labour unions are not so pro working class and its the old if we like it and its good for us its good for you even if it ****s you over.
