Following press reports in recent days linking the club with a potential takeover, sources close to the club have confirmed to A Love Supreme that a takeover is progressing quickly and that US based investors Glenn Fuhrman, John Phelan, Robert Platek and Michael Dell are set to take over SAFC.

Michael Dell will be a passive investor supporting his business partners, who will be more heavily involved at boardroom level. A quick Google search confirms that collectively the wealth that the four Americans have makes them one of the richest forces in British football.

They have been looking at the possible acquisition of an English football club for some time as part of a wider sports investment strategy and have decided Sunderland is the club for them after meetings arranged via a US football industry contact of Charlie Methven.

The club source said that “the board have been very open about looking to attract investment in the future, but they could see this was too good an opportunity for the club to miss.”

The deal, which is understood to be around £40m, will see the consortium acquire the majority of the club with Donald and Methven remaining on the board.

The process has been going on for a couple of months and it's "hoped the legal aspects, EFL etc will be sorted out in the next couple of weeks.”

Ooooh

I think ill join you Rog..

The chap I've been talking to is currently in the States so it's not easy to communicate due to the time difference. He's over there arranging to sell a huge pharmaceutical research company he's built up and owned for years.

Anyway he says this Sunderland thing is 'beyond the point where it can be put back into the box!'

That, to me, sounds like the people involved are openly talking about it and feel confident that it's a done deal.

I can't say an awful lot more, because that's all I really know, but I'm starting to believe it. I can't post my friends name or company because all Google searches on him are tracked by a security agency and he wouldn't be pleased if anything came back on me.

Sounds promising though.

The current strength of the Dollar should encourage them pushing this one through pronto. It's a no-brainer, no debt value-add deal with massive upside. As long as they don't think increasing the capacity is a good idea and take their time to do this right....

Big men who are so rich does not mean they will pump money into the club at all...There are so many of these owners in football these days. It's like toys for the boys where they buy a club as a bit of fun.

Theres also many owners that do spend, so why dont you get back to pumping Sheep

We know better than anyone that it doesn't always work, Short is a billionaire and he lead us to league one. I don't believe for a second though that a mega rich group of backers wouldn't want to pump money in and if Donald and Methven stay on as is usually suggested then those boys know what to do with the extra capital.

Time will tell..

I can understand anyone not getting carried away after the way the Mags were all celebrating their Sheikh only to end up crushed.

This is much different to that and I don't think it will be long until its all clear. This is disruptive for the club, players, manager, etc, as well as putting off any other potential investors, and I'm sure Donald & Methven would've denied it if there was nothing in it.

Their 'radio silence' speaks volumes imo.
