Shane Long on his future at Saints... https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/17595440.southampton-ace-shane-long-on-his-future-with-the-club/ Providing we sell Austin and Carrillo, bring in another striker, then I wouldn't mind Long seeing out his contract next season. Wouldn't be awful back up to Ings & New Signing. Not as if we could sell him for much now anyway.
Depends on what our options might be. Long's likely to have some demand, either with newly-promoted clubs or promotion hopefuls, and it's quite possible that his preference might be to receive more playing time if we do make a significant striker signing. If we can sell Long and bring in a youngster to serve as the third striker, I'd do it, but he's probably the best-suited to the third striker role of our current options if not.
Well you'd think our 3 strikers next year could quite possibly be Ings, Obafemi and new signing. Gallagher, Austin and Long all to leave and another youngster being the 4th choice if we ever need one.
I hope Long stays....I think he suits Ralph's style and is worthy of his place. Also makes a nice change to have someone say they like it here and want to stay...that's worth a pay rise alone.
Don't think we should be relying on Obafemi just yet. Needs at least another half dozen performances to prove he has what it takes.
Whilst I agree, being 3rd choice when we usually only play with 1 forward should mean he is getting a reasonable amount of game time for us to judge him without being really reliant on him. If he slips to 4th choice then he will basically never play (see Gallagher this year who has been 4th/5th choice). If he is 4th choice I would suggest the best option would be to loan him out to let him get regular games.
Also needs to stay fit.......done his hamstring twice this season at least........and he's only young.
Next season we will play with two strikers, as it is Ralph's preferred formation. So 3rd or 4th choice will still get plenty of opportunities to play i would say.
I doubt we'll be getting 2 new strikers, unless you count Ings. I very much hope we get one though. Long Ings Obfemi and a new striker i think will be our strike force next season. Gallagher should be sold and i don't think Austin suits Ralph, though I'm not sure how easy it will be to sell him. As a man manager Hasenhuttl prefers a small squad so i don't expect us to have a stockpile of strikers. With a bit of luck our survival will be confirmed soon (tomorrow hopefully!) so we might not have much else to talk about other than the rebuild!
