Sure I read this one a couple of weeks ago....... Southampton are considering a summer move for Rangers'Canada midfielder Scott Arfield, 30. (Mirror)
And hasn't Ralph just said that we want players early in their career and not to be their final contract. He said that was the Southampton system and the way we want to go forward from here. Get 'em young, bring 'em on and wave goodbye if the money is right. I may be paraphrasing Nothing is ever set in stone and there are always exceptions, but this seems to be the message that was given to Ralph and what he signed up for.
Where does tjis Scott Arfield one keep coming from? He is the exact player we do not need. He will just be a squad player that adds nothing and is old. Seems too random for journo's to pluck out of thin air.
Arfield is a good player, but not good enough for Saints, and too old now. Ralph is looking for a smaller squad, so why would we look at him, who would be competing with Armstrong, Slattery, Reed(?). I hope players that are brought in will be younger, and hungry, and with sell on potential.
I simply don't think that Mo El is mentally capable of doing anything like that for us, but i'd be delighted to be proved wrong... This comment is referencing an earlier discussion on another thread about the merits of Boufal over Mo El.
Didn't see the other discussion, but I feel Boufal would work well in the system we used last week vs Wolves, in the Redmond/Sims positions MoEl strikes me as a better option wide when we play 4 at the back
I don't really have a strong opinion on either, just that Boufal has the most dribbles in the top 5 leagues, which is impressive but if Ralph doesn't want that then it's not going to work. He only has two years left so we have to decide on him now, Moi has four, so much easier to keep him for one more unless he wants to go.
Apparently Saints turned down a request from West Ham to move their game to 12.30 so that Hammers fans (if they wished) could go the PL match and the ladies FA Cup Final v Man City at Wembley. Can understand why they asked and understand why Saints turned it down (can't afford to disrupt our normal preparations). A shame for the ladies side as, although not every Hammers fan would go to both matches, it must reduce the possible size of their support. I suspect the club were planning some kind of deal to encourage attendance.
Ship out Mo and give Boufal the Ralph treatment- could be a real asset if Ralph gets the best out of him.
He's capable of doing some very special things on a football pitch. You need at least one player in your squad that has the X factor IMO.
Ok.... I give up, since watching the second half yesterday, I have racked my brains with the same question that I have asked for months now.... is Lemina actually any good....? If he is, where does he play? Does he dislodge the massively thighed duo of PEH and Romeu....? If not, does he join the line of people we “want” close to the Fire Exit in case we need to get rid...? Discuss....??
Lemina is a good player....the question is what can he offer Ralph, so happy to leave it to our manager. Lemina hasn't had a lot of luck with a recalcitrant injury just when he would hope to see how he fitted in with a new manager.
