I’m liking these appointments. What’s bizarre is how long they have taken. Guess it just wasn’t seen as a priority

I know but we’ve been out of league one for 6 months now. And even if that was the reason - you don’t just not have an Under 21 manager or Under 18 manager because you want to get promoted first before you appoint them. What if we’d lost the playoff final?
not having a go at Speakman and Co. They’re doing a great job and these appointments seem the right kind to be making. Just find it odd we went for so long without these roles filled. No big deal.
Think of it as rather like making a good curry......you gradually introduce the best ingredients at the right time,not all at once,in order to complement those you already have,to get the most tasty outcome.
Guess someone must have been filling in, maybe we wanted those we have appointed in the roles, it took longer than expect to convince, we knew we would get them & maybe there was no outstanding candidate over those we had filling in.
dont know the answer, just think there will be a decent reason
In an industry where 'instant success' is the byword it's not easy to find the right people to look after long term development. There may be job satisfaction but there's not the glamour of the match day squad and not too much praise. And the last thing we needed were 'jobs for the boys' on the cheap or people coming to Sunderland for an easy ride and a fat contract that's paid off when the effort isn't being put in. It's also really disruptive, for players, when there's no consistency ...
... especially young lads who need to absorb the culture and vision of the entire club. If they feel 'at home' and part of something planned and definite they're more likely to stay when they're ready for the first eleven.

Good post mate. This kind of consistency and longer term planning in our approach has been something we've been crying out for well over a decade.

"Sunderland 'Til I Die" will return for a third series, Fulwell 73's Leo Pearlman has confirmed.
The two-episode mini-series will show the club in League One and their win at Wembley in the play-off final.
