I do providing it's a continual process. It has to be a conveyor belt of new, lower paid, players replacing those achieving high value and wanting big salaries. When hunger for football is replaced by hunger for money it's time to sell.
Stephen Fletcher Jack Rodwell Fabio Borini Didier Ndong Papy Djilibodji Jeremain Lens Whabi Khazri All signed for big money and given away for nothing The shameful tale of the Ellis Short years
Plus countless others over the 10 years or so he was here. We very rarely made any money at all on player sales. Signing journeymen players at the end of their careers just here for a payday. Give me this model we have now any day of the week. There will be others out there to come in, most probably already identified by the recruitment team.
Yes, every club other than about 5 in world football should be a selling club. If 15mill came in for Ross and we spent 5-7mill on a replacement and then put the rest into other positions and then some into facilities and the academy, we’d be better off imo
I reckon the recruitment team would back themselves to find a good replacement for less than half of that.
Best for the club. Not so much for the fans. People are going to be spitting when Ballard goes to Everton for £8m (example), but we all know that’s the plan. I’m keen to know how they’ll decide between good players worth selling & good players worth keeping.
A young lad from a French academy somewhere no doubt. I don't think it's a coincidence that we are suddenly shopping in France
Thats where some of the money would be reinvested imo, things like expanding the scouting network etc. KLD is in a much better position now with us being in the Championship to pick up the phone to the likes of PSG and talk seriously about potential signings e.g Michut. I can't wait for the January transfer window thread to start on here. Should be fun!
Which makes last season's promotion SO important. Regardless of what happened since, we owe a debt of gratitude to Alex Neil
I think it'll be down to how keen the player is to be here, simple as that. If they think the grass is greener then get them sold for the most money possible ... ... but keep scouring the world for good players who want to come here and take their places.
Of course but I’d much rather be hunting for a replacement with 15mill in the bank instead of letting him leave for nothing/peanuts like we have done previously
Imo the model needs to be most players are for sale at the right price apart from the odd one or two who are integral to the way we play and would be very difficult to replace. Ross Stewart is thean in the team who we shouldn't be selling as he would be very difficult to replace, it isn't just his goals it's the work rate, the closing down he does, his holding the ball up not many strikers can be arsed to do all that! Unfortunately I think Ross Stewart will also fall in the category of wanting a move. He is at an age where he needs to move soon to get the chance at the highest level he can and get that big pay deal!
I think we will quickly know once the window opens if Stewart is likely to leave, based upon TM's recent comments that a 3rd striker isn't necessarily something they have discussed. If he is going then I would think that we would have a replacement in as soon as the window opens to try and stop any panic.
Depends where we get, if we get mid table ish in the prem then maybe it needs revaluating as being a blend as without that might stop us growning. Everton have done things mental look at Leicester as a decent example, finincial mess, sorted themselves out, won league, champ league entry couple of times, squad to fit that, dont qualify & now there in a position of not being able to freshen the squad as they vant get shot of enough to raise enough/bting down the wage bill. we need to never enter a positiin whereby other clubs dont want our players...or they need to take a pay cut to leave as you end up paying them a top up for years. model will become more difficult to operate & sustain first team finds as we grow.....lets see where we get, certainly a lot more exciting than watching journeymen or players who have already hit there peak & on way back down....not really wanting to be here
