As for his general feelings about the club, I just never warmed to him when he's talked about the club since he left. He's always there, if someone wants a quote, but I doubt we'll ever see him just show up at a match.

When I was a youngster, my dad took me and my brother to watch Sunderland on the pre season tour of Belgium.
It was back in the Peter Reid days. We checked into the hotel, and by utter chance it was the same hotel as the Sunderland team and management were staying in.
I had 3 or 4 days in the hotel seeing the players every day. Some players were more approachable than others, Mickey Gray didn’t have a second for you but up the other end of the scale was Phillips.
Phillips went out of his way to speak with us, every time we see him. He was the superstar of the squad, but didn’t act like it. Even in his private time away from supporters, he still made time for 2 young supporters in me and my brother.
Why do I think he done it? Because he cares, he appreciates the club and supporters, and is willing to give a bit back.
