I follow Maurice Dreyfus on Instagram, he’s just posted a ‘story’ overlooking some beautiful scenery in what looks like Switzerland and has Wise Men Say playing over the top of it.
I was in the Amsterdam Arena watching us play Benfica when we announced we were signing him. I’m sure the same day news filtered through that the mags had lost 6-0 to Leyton Orient. Happy Days.
He made a massive impact in such a short space of time. Good player imo. (I'm jealous of you being in the amsterdam arena btw! )
Never knew it at the time, but looking back I think my life peaked at the Amsterdam tournament. Certainly the laddish side of it. Loads of mates, all mortal all the time, wandering around amsterdam visiting pubs and watching Sunderland (and I visited a few too many windows cos I was young and daft). Life started getting serious after that. Wish I'd done more daft things looking back, what I'd give for us to be a club that regularly has European trips
The sound in my head of 42,000 of us singing that makes the hairs on my neck stand up and sends shivers down my spine
I don’t agree. He’s not criticised the club, just (rightly or wrongly) cautious of the the new set up. I think he genuinely wants what’s best for us, and playing wise is a legend at the club. A few cautious comments won’t change my opinion of the man.
I have mentioned his statement on here and the problem in my opinion has nothing to do with him being cautious who can blame anyone for that? It's that he is no doubt getting paid to give his opinion on the takeover but seems like he can't be arsed to do 30 minutes or so research into the new owner.
I think he's a bit miffed that he hasn't been considered for any job at the club, there were some fans wanting Pearson and Phillips interviewed before we got PP, and maybe he thought he was in with a chance. ( I never bought into that) but he seems to have been in and around the NE a lot lately, I get the impression he pushed himself into our spotlight a bit, but aye he needs to show a bit more enthusiasm for this takeover, not the sour grapes reaction.
Heard nothing about that. However, he was going some important work and was partly responsible for pushing the club into this new direction and modern way of working. I think it would be up to him. I think he is an asset so would be wise to keep him involved IMO.
