Like people have been saying, I think this appointment is key. I get that we will all have disagreements about managers but getting the right ethos at the club is imperative right now. Hopefully we can just find a manager that slots in with this new Technical Director. Praise seems to be very high for him.

I think in addition to getting the right ethos, it is about getting the right backroom team in place at the club. The physios, the sports psychologists, nutritionists and all the stuff that makes a modern, successful football club.

That means that when a new manager does come it, the change at the club is only the incoming manager and 1 or 2 coaches. This new role will be vital in making this happen and avoid the repeating mistakes of a new manager, a great upheaval of backroom team, the manager gets sacked and it starts again.

Must admit I'm getting lost off by all these titles as well!

I always thought a director of football would be the one who would identify targets (heading up the recruitment team) who would suit the style of play the club was implementing. There'd be discussion with the head coach but by and large positions would be identified and they'd get the players.

Technical director was more about the coaching and staffing side of things, especially in terms of recruiting and developing staff.

For me, a sporting director sounds like someone who would sort of have a role in both of those. In a large enough club you might have a DoF, an academy manager/ director and a technical director who report to the sporting director. But if that's the case I don't see the need for a chairman. But if this lad is coming in as the sporting director type role then I don't see how we could also have someone above him. Time will tell I suppose

Hopefully when all this gets sorted, who's responsible for what will become clear.I agree with you,at the moment it seems as though the titles for these roles overlap.

I suspect the takeover is about to be pushed back based on the news of the EFL bailout. We're about to get £375K + a share of £15m determined via lost gate receipts. Likely to be millions we're about to get. If that hasn't been factored into takeover discussions, i can see it delaying things.
Well if the new owners have got any nous about them they'll use that money to buy the club from the existing owners. I think there's already a precedent set......

Not now surely. This must have been agreed and signed off already. The likelihood of this could have been factored in....it's been on the table for a while.

You should have given a trigger warning before posting that. :emoticon-0141-whew:

I remember that day well, and how shocked I was when Wilko was announced.

You were shocked? Apparently I had a face like thunder according to a lad I worked with at the time. I was having a **** day at work as well and lost it big style later on after the news that he had taken the job! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

The proposed new structure sounds promising as we've been pretty much rudderless for years.

I would hope that If takeover happens then Kyril Louis Dreyfus / Juan Sartori sit as Co Chairman.

Another outside appointment as Chairman could be a case of too many cooks, if we are also having A CEO running the business day to day, then a sporting director, then a technical director above the head coach and academy manager

It's our 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday and thanks to Covid all our plans have gone pear shaped.
Can this please be sorted before then so I can pay proper attention to my other half and put this bloody computer down for a while.
Pretty please.
Be careful at your age paying her proper attention, your computer is safer <laugh> Happy anniversary to you both .

I saw it on teletext - SUNDERLAND APPOINT WILKINSON

I couldn't think who the **** Wilkinson was, could only think of Jonny Wilkinson the rugby player, and to be fair he might have done a better job. When I clicked to read the page and saw it was Howard, I just dropped the remote in absolute shock <laugh>

Just been told Stefan Schwarz DOF but from a different lad than usual, he does seem confident though.

Just for any RTG idiots claiming I said Schwarz had been appointed.

I said a lad had told me, that's all.

I didn't say he was a journalist, a club employee or Juan Sartori .... just a lad passing on what he's heard.

I didn't say I was ITK, just doing what I always do and passing on what I'm told.

If people want to scan this forum, run back to RTG and report everything I say, a year after I last posted, that says more about them than me.

You'd think that, at a time when there are huge changes at the club, and great optimism, an ex-poster wouldn't be the topic of conversation.

(Sorry for the RTG reference but someone on here pm'd me about what was being said.)

I seems that appointments are being made on the basis of the ability to do the job in hand, rather than a "name".
Seems like the club have a plan here...
Takeover must be done, I don't think for one minute this would be a sd/cm appointment.

As they'll have to pay compensation for him, I'd say its obviously not a Donald/Methane appointment
