People should be happy with this.

Very well thought of and has a good history of getting the youth into good positions.

Part of the plan, structures and ethos to change.
I’m very happy, he seems qualified for the role, and if his focus is youth, even better. It what’s we need to do with the facilities available.

But what constitutes a manager that has more of a chance to get us up? That suggests that promotion rests solely on the manager that is appointed. There are so many more variables involved some of which are under the control the of the manager and some of which are not. Chance and luck play a big factor- that's the nature of sport.
And to look at that notion from a different angle, who would be a manager who could guarantee success? We'd all be delighted if Zinedine Zidane was appointed- he's a massive name and he's won numerous titles. But he was parachuted in to work with superstars at one of the worlds richest clubs. Could he do what Howe, Wilder, Cowley have done? I'd argue that if they can achieve what they have on the small budgets and with the more limited players they've had to work with, they are ones that are more likely to succeed when given a larger budget (although of course there are question marks over Howe in that regard) and better players.

Surely the manager is a starting point for everything on the playing side of the club? Yes there are factors that are outside of his control but if he has the backing of the fans and the players have faith in the way he wants them to play then that should count for something. Yes a big name doesn't guarantee anything but like I said previously, it would galvanise the fans and the club. Look at the response when Parkinson was appointed - no one was that bothered that he was given the job and most (myself included) had other names in mind that they preferred for the job. Yeah, its a fine line to get everything pointing in the right direction but surely if you appoint a manager that ignites both the fans and the players imaginations that can only be a good thing. And as for Zindane, maybe all we have to do is wait for a few weeks and he might be available!

No doubt he’d be comfortable in the role but he’s spent 14 years as part of the fabric of Birmingham FC helping stabilise them as a mid table championship club. Should we really be happy with that?

Would he be Academy Manager rather than DoF?
Looks a solid appointment. Never heard of him but seems well respected.
Fantastic background developing and spotting young talent
If we are going the DOF route would like to see someone in with European experience and contacts.

Lets wait and see the full picture

Look at the players he has helped bring through. Its not all about where that team finished. They have also had a rough time of it over the last decade with ownership etc

Methven had the smallest stake in the club and was the most influential character around the club until his mouth got too big even by his standards.
I disagree about him being the most influential. He is a mouthpiece who believes himself to be the most influential. But IMO there is a lot of smoke and mirrors involved. From your posts you don't seem happy that there will be a change at the club which is your opinion. I believe that there has to be a certain period of transition which has to happen. If CM manages to keep his mouth shut he may survive that but I believe the fans distrust of him and SD will see them made small voices in a much changed club. I also you mention JS as being here for a while and not changing anything and to be fair there is truth in that but you have to be fair in that he and SD fell out earlier this year which by all accounts was about how he ran the club and the direction it was going. Would you have been giving him or Madrox money after that
