Thought they were a bit more business savvy than that.
Who knows what exactly went on mate. It's a shame like. He was expected to be the man mind. Looks like we have moved on now though.

I don't believe the excuse that was rolled out. For a guy who is not working and many top quality managers out there looking for work, he apparently says he doesn't want to drop to league 1 at this stage in his career.... What career, you're out of work mate..doesn't make sense
I'm struggling to understand all this. When Parky was fired on Sunday, the logical assumption was that this was the work of the new owners, who would have acted in readiness for a replacement coming in,which is how it seemed as though it was playing out yesterday. So, why would they take that action without having someone else lined up ready to join? They must have had an agreement with someone....maybe Poyet, maybe not....and they surely must have had a signature on a contract, not just a word of mouth? Anything else would be blisteringly naive?

Thought the clearing of the dead wood was always the responsibility of the old regeme so the new owner's wherent sullied with all the mess?I'm struggling to understand all this. Sartori would believe he could take the word of Poyet.

As we know the world of Football moves fast, I think (I know its not the Sunderland way) that we would have had a plan B - C and D for these appointments especially if the new regime is making these calls......If you can sign half a dozen players in the last hour of the transfer window I would like to think any appointment as major as a manager we would have done major due diligence on.........of course this is Sunderland though
I wouldnt have thought we started looking the minute after PP was sacked
He went from being a translator to coach to manager. He's still referred to as the translator at Barcelona. He had to show ability and thats what counted. Not where he'd been before. He built a reputation as the Cowleys are doing. Of course, it makes complete sense that managers who have established a team in League 1 and were then taken on by a team in the division above aren't good enough for a team in League 1.It wasn't his first job in football though. He started coaching in the 90's, was assistant to Robson at Porto where they won the league and cup and followed Robson to Barca where they won the Cup winners Cup and Spanish cup. He stayed at Barca when Robson left and was the Van Gall's assistant for two years and they won the league twice. It wasn't like he went from nowhere to a manager's job so my guess is, with a background like that, the Benfica players would have been canny about it. They certainly wouldn't have had to ask who he was.
Bebeto, Romario, Dunga, Rai, Tafferel etc were fine with it.Can you imagine the likes of mcgeady and danny graham been told how to play football off an ex PE teacher
This club really tugs at your heart, if what daft Bob said over the road that a new manager and dof to be announced today is correct is there a chance it’ll be someone not mentioned yet. Let’s face it the club over the past year has done a very good job of hiding the new owners names, could we see a surprise appointment.
Agree. You'd have thought, and I think we all believed, that the key appointments had all been sorted, with, you would assume, water-tight contracts signed and sealed.
When we heard the news of PP departure,we can be forgiven for thinking that was the first step in an already agreed programme.
I'm forgetting that this is SAFC and the normal rules of logic and common sense simply don't apply to us!
