Opinion: TFT is a threat to our club - the EFL must now do its job properly & protect Sunderland AFC Angry, upset, fearful... all these things are entirely understandable reactions. But the most important people now are the EFL, and we must ensure they protect SAFC from the crypto bros. Who are these supporters I don’t like the idea
I recommend people listen to that podcast with Tom White. He's very open and honest about the background to the story. no reason to doubt him. he also categorically says that not only did methven not give him the story, when he tracked down his number and called Methven to verify it, Methven didnt know who he was and wouldn't speak to him until he'd verified he worked for sky with a mutual acquaintance (you have to assume Dave jones) He also interestingly says the only reason he ended up releasing the name was because Phil Buckingham from the Athletic found the story from another source and was about to break it himself.
Will give it a listen on my way to work tomorrow, is it more worrying or reassuring? Struggling to see any positive to it, admittedly haven’t listened to toms side yet
I'm no more worried than I was as I still think it won't happen But what it's pretty clear to me is that its a genuine bid from people who are genuinely wanting to buy the club. whether they have any funding or any means to is another question entirely they sound like they want to buy the club to make money out of the club and use its fanbase to con people into thinking they're buying a say and "fan ownership" when in reality they're just making loads of money out of us. so they're scam artists.
aye but even he on this podcast admits what this lot are doing is shady. I can't see what benefit it would serve him. he says he has very intentionally not commented his opinion on the story, as he wanted to just report the facts. Personally I wish he'd also say his opinion as its clear he isn't too keen on it himself, but he won't put that on twitter.
Yes I think so. But if he's being told by both them (the buyers) and Methven (the seller) (and other sources he doesn't;t name on the podcast) that its with the EFL, then its not him jumping the gun per se. He also said he wasn't going to name them, but Phil Buckingham was about to publish his story naming them (which had come from "another source")
they were definitely AT the play off semi. whether they were in the directors box as Tom White says. Crucially he does say he's never been in there himself so he clearly got that info from somebody else
he absolutely may well have been the one who leaked it to Phil Buckingham (who found out from "another source" - and had a quote from Methven)
I've listened to it and also read the original Athletic article and its all a bit smoke and mirrors to me. As far as I can see the only people who are giving any quotable info about TFT and their bid are TFT They phoned up White to tell him. They are also the only people directly quoted in the Athletic saying they have a bid in. In the original article Methvin when asked for a quote does not mention them only says two people have bids in. White obviously believes its genuine cant see why he'd put his neck on the line but unless I've missed something the only info he has is they were at the play off game and they told him they have a bid in. Yet to see any other third party corroboration they are as far on as they say. White may know but certainly hasn't produced any For me at the moment they are Bit coin William Storeys. Really hope I'm not proved wrong.
