I suspect Bruce jnr is now the only one we can be confident will be offered a new deal.

That would be absolutely ****ing ridiculous. If genuinely good players like Rosey and McShane get sent packing whilst junior gets a new deal, it's undeniable nepotism and Bruce senior has to leave.

All those banging on about Lenihan, I don't know how anyone can judge his value to the team, we've never seen him play and all we can judge him on is his struggle to get into the worst team the second tier has seen in a long time before getting injured. What are these opinions of him based on?

After our failed European campaign, could a plan for Rosie to move on in January floundered with his ham string injury?
I really would have liked to have seen more of him this season, but perhaps he was only still here because of circumstance and not because he was part of the plan going forward.

Sounds feasible.

Steve Bruce may will have been told how much money is available. He may have had a choice about which out of contract players he wants to keep. A prudent business man waits to see what he has left towards the end before committing to new expenditure on wages. I would hope that those players who are not having their contracts renewed were told some time ago that it was a possibility if we went down. That would give them time to try and find alternative employment.

As to building a team for promotion. I think Bruce has failed to do that. Too many of our fighters are out of contract and of the rest they are the ones that will bring the best prices.

Steve Bruce may have been told many things, but he is, first and foremost, a football team manager and coach and I would hope he is able to prioritise his player movement and this one seems strange. When I spoke of building for promotion that is what he should be doing now, not when in the PL. Think of his build project as a barn conversion, much will go, but some core elements are kept. What I and quite a few others are suggesting is that it seems a rash move to be giving one of those core elements his marching orders, as we will need a player of his quality, versatility and specialism to compete at the top of the league.

Junior's played ok this season when he's been called upon.

I would think this is a mutual parting based on bruce not been able to guarantee first team football

I don't think he struggled to get into the side, he picked up a bad knee injury just before the third game of his loan spell and he returned to the club. Lee Clark did say at the time that he wanted him back if he was back before the end of the season.

He did also get a random call up to the Ireland first team at some point before Christmas, I assume based on his appearances for Blackpool and our U21's. I can't think of any other reason they'd have called him up.
