Nothing changes does it?! Man U winning by a dodgy penalty. You know this will be the final score as well with nothing much happening in the second half

Mourinho is just not a United manager is he. More like Don Revie's Leeds.

There's jumping the gun, and then there's this

As it stands of course., Manchester United are top of the league.

    They haven't won a title since 2013.

I assume this is why SwitchOffBBC is still trending on Twitter...

I used to enjoy watching United, particularly in Europe. I would happily support them and was pleased when they won the champions league. Nowadays it’s just so boring. It’s pretty effective but I can totally understand their fans frustration at having to watch this week in week out.

Only 5 teams got fewer penalties than Utd last season.
    Only 5 the season before.
Only 4 the season before that.
Utd got the most penalties in 2012, but apart from that season nowhere near the most even in the days when we played most of the game in the opposition penalty area.
    Myth debunked

    *ahem*

Total number of penalties given to The Sheikh Mansour Team since 2002-3: 93
Total number of penalties given to Saltypool since 2002-3: 92
Total number of penalties given to Chelsea since 2002-3: 88
Total number of penalties given to Man Utd since 2002-3: 84
Total number of penalties given to Arsenal since 2002-3: 83
Total number of penalties given to Tottenham since 2002-3: 72 (and were given 0 in 2012/13)
Total number of penalties given to Everton since 2002-3: 67
Total number of penalties given to Newcastle since 2002-3: 54
Total number of penalties given to West Scam since 2002-3: 50
Total number of penalties given to Crystal Palace since 2002-3: 46
Total number of penalties given to Stoke since 2002-3: 44
Total number of penalties given to West Brom since 2002-3: 38 (and were given 0 in 2002/3)
Total number of penalties given to Leicester since 2002-3: 32
Total number of penalties given to Southampton since 2002-3: 31
Total number of penalties given to Swansea since 2002-3: 21 (and were given 0 in 2012/13)
Total number of penalties given to Bournemouth since 2002-3: 17
Total number of penalties given to Burnley since 2002-3: 15 (and were given 0 in 2017/18)

In other words, in the past sixteen years only three teams have been given more penalties by Man Utd, who moved clear into fourth place earlier this evening - or, to put it another way, Man Utd are given penalties more consistently than the vast majority of Premier League teams

So, no, that bunk is very much intact - at least until the Leicester fans descend upon the site and call them "bitter" for noting that over a third of the penalties they have received all happened to be in the 2015/16 season...

Only the first 7 have been every present in the PL in that period so you can't make any comparison with the rest.
    So 4th out of 7.
And considering that for the first 11 of those seasons Utd played very attacking football with a lot of possession in the opposition box, the stats don't suggest preferential treatment. Thinking back to the days of the Alamo at Old Trafford, it was a travesty that refs allowed opposition defenders to get away with all the holding, blocking, body checking and other cynical fouls that routinely went on.
Last night Utd got a penalty for a clear hand ball.

You've been utterly unadventurous since Ferguson retired though, so the officials probably nodded off at times.
While he was in charge you went about 8,000 years without conceding a penalty at Old Trafford, too.

Actually I can, for example West Brom were a Premier League for all but four of the seasons in the specified period, yet they received less than half the number of penalties that Man Utd did. Similar can be said for Newcastle, West Scam and Stoke, all of whom were in the Premier League for the vast majority of that period, and none of them came close to being given as many penalties.

There was a point recently where Newcastle had received more Premier League penalties than us.
I think it's still almost identical, despite them having spent multiple seasons outside of it.

I think it was only in 2013/4 that we pulled ahead of them.

Funny how the number of penalties they were winning dramatically decreased once Alan Shearer and Michael Owen left the club, isn't it?

    Later than that, even:

We may have edged ahead when they were in the Championship last time. I can't find the current numbers, though.

Are you sure that it wasn't 8,000 years since they conceded a goal? Even when it was a yard and a half over the line.

Brighton, my tip for the surprise team, are being absolutely hammered 0-0 at Watford. Its like they have never met each other.

If they had had goal line technology in those days, forget Old Toilet, that goal would have been given at the City of Manchester Stadium.

    Watford 1-0 Brighton

What a goal, volley Pereyera (spelling) a must watch. Bobby Charlton would have been proud of that.
