right, i said i'd reserve judgement until i was in possession of the facts so heres my view.

this isnt the first time this has happened in english, yet alone european and world football.

the only resemblance man city have with their club 15 years ago is the colour blue. their are now in a new stadium called the etihad, they have a shirt sponsor called etihad airways and they count etisalat, another UAE company amongst their other sponsors. they have foreign players, a foreign manager, foreign owners who are using the club as their toy. now theres a club which has had its soul ripped apart.

me personally, i prefer to look to the future. i was exited a few years back to hear of the new regions in rugby and although i do feel the malaysians have forced this upon us, it will feel wierd for a while given that the stadium, chants etc have blue everywhere. however the financial benefits and new futuristic element it brings should be embraced IMO <ok>

swamp dont talk rubbish..we have already got a team that play in red with a dragon on their badge....they are called wrexham AFC....you dont want fans calling you wexham reserves do you after all you will be playing in their colours with their badge on the shirt and as wrexham are the official welsh club that has always played in them colours then to me it has been badly thought out and dont make any sense whatsoever....

get a grip you say.....its only THE BADGE AND THE COLOUR...........<doh>..away with the past and all the history just like that eh????sorry but why can't we achieve the same success with us remaining as we are but with of course the backing on bringing in the new players we need to get us up to that next level..once we have secured our spot in the premier i'm sure the malaysian market would happily support the blue cardiff city regardless..the whole thing to me sounds naff beyond belief and completely insulting to the fans and the history of the club..by all means spend for new players, increase the capacity when needed but don't change the clubs badge and kit colours..completely unnecessary..i know we've missed out in the playoffs three seasons in a row but the apparent overhaul of all things blue and bluebird STINKS FOR ME..

London - I understand your view. But what you are asking is to get all the goodies without making any changes. The owners believe that they will attract the Asian market with red kits and a dragon. There is some talk that extra outside investment has been promised based on these changes.

You are telling the owners to give us a huge investment but do not try to expand Cardiff into a new market. Why would they do that?

I don't want to change, but it is going to happen, and we will be a stronger club at the end of it.

At last. A proper football fan. <applause>

Stadia change, sponsors change, managers and players change. Your identity comprises of your fans, history, name and colours. End of. The Malaysians are removing two of the four and will alienate the first.

    Shocking.

The name is not changing, colours have changed before, history will not change. So they are changing 1 of the 4 and it has been done before.

all i'm trying to do is put a positive spin on it.

i suppose at the moment its difficult to think clearly, i suppose we'll only truly know how it will affect us the supporters when they first play in it.

Siam: So you'll still be the bluebirds then? Thought the badge was changing to a dragon to get the Asians interested. If that's right then they are changing more than just the kit colour, despite your valiant attempt at gloss.

"all i'm trying to do is put a positive spin on it."

I understand that Swamp. But it speaks volumes that you're trying to.

Our name is Cardiff City Football Club. The bluebirds is a nickname. The proposal is to change the nickname. The club will remain Cardiff City Football Club.

i want investment of course i do but i don't want it at the expense of our colours, badge and history..its bollocks to say a bloody red dragon will work better as our badge to further our success in malaysia..why can't they see that if they spend money on the players on the pitch that that in turn would bring the success they are looking for as a brand to push for the malaysian market as we would be in a better league thus raising our profile without having to change our identity.

This is a weird one for me , we changed our badge a few years ago yet many still use the old one , can change the team strip but will they stop people wearing the old one , can they stop people chanting bluebirds from the terraces? no.
At the moment Im reading a book called No Logo by Naomi Klein ( good read ) that looks at the way companies brand themselves and the switch from products to brand Identity ( Apple dont make a single product for themselves they design and building takes place elsewher same as nike etc etc ) Teams like Man U , Chelsea etc etc are just that a global brand and people buy into that ( how many supporters of man u have been to england let alone old trafford ) If this sets us up to rival to the like of man u chelsea liverpool in emerging markets such as Malaysia and the far east and brings in a massive investment and fan base would us as Supporters turn that down ?
Might be hard to swallow but whats the alternative , do we have a Welsh , Cardiff City Supporting sugar Daddy with Money to burn waiting in the wings?
This might change the shirts, badges , nickname etc but what positive effect will it have

London - I agree....I would love to be the bluebirds forever, get some investment, and move forward. The owners have pretty much said we will only give you the investment if this happens. With our current situation, if they walk, liquidation becomes a possibility again.

I am hanging onto the fact that we are Cardiff City and we play in Cardiff. The rest is aesthetic and will always be a part of who we are.

As was pointed out before, that was without 100 years of history behind the club.

The favourable comparison with Man City is a poor one. Listed reasons why Man City have sold their soul: new stadium - check, foreign shirt sponsor - check, foreign players and manager - well that's clearly the future plan, "foreign owners who are using the club as their toy" - well that one speaks for itself, and on top of all of that they want to change the club's identity. Hopefully the kit will get changed back to blue the minute the Malaysians get tired of their new plaything.

If people care so little about such a large part of their club's identity being changed it sadly seems it won't be long until we see another "franchise" deciding to pack up and move to a different city, how would you feel about, say "London Dragons", after all it would be easier to sell the idea of a London club to the Asian market.

I know a lot of Bluebird fans will be seething , especially older ones , butno debt , Malky with great facilities & some money to spend ... scary short & long term !! . Unless you can come up with a better solution to keeping up , financially , with the West Ham's , West Brum's & West of Ya , embrace the good of it ... opportunity's knockin .Some will be seeing red over this , I'll just be seeing Bluebirds , unchained !!

I know you'll still be CCFC, but last time I looked your fans were fond of shouting (and posting) BLOOOOOOOBIIIIIRDS!

That has to count for something surely? These foreigners are destroying the fans' connection with their club - its very identity. MK Dons is a better comparison than Man City.

And you lot are rolling over. <doh>

if we were in the premier already and the success in the malaysian market was was still pretty flat then from their point of view they may have an argument for change9although i still wouldn't agree) but we are a championship side that hasn't even graced the premier yet..spend money on the field without compromising the clubs identity..i'm sure the malaysians would happily run around the streets supporting a BLUE CARDIFF CITY FC WITH A BLUEBIRD AS THE BADGE if we were playing premier league football....CANT THEY JUST BLOODY SEE THAT..PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL BREEDS SUCCESS so spend money on players DONT MESS WITH OUR IDENTITY!!!!!
