A bit harsh to say he's been a big disappointment Stroller...he's not had much to work with. If we're expecting him to win the ball (often with a ratio of 2/3:1 against him), and then hold the ball up or take on 2/3 players alone, I think we're expecting a bit too much from him.

I thought, when I saw the starting line up, that Kone would have a lot more support going forward, but in reality, Dembele, Vale and Smyth were dragged further and further back, leaving Kone completely isolated up front.
I think Kone has potential but just like every other striker has proved in the last 10-years, they are very ineffective when the only player in the opposition half.

The longer the game went on (after 20 minutes) the further back the midfield dropped, the less Kone did.

Star of David Bardsley: "Thought Kone was a lot better yesterday. Not great by any means but competed physically, little service and hit the bar with the header."

I agree about Kone. In my eyes, he's been a bit of a disappointment so far this season but I was at the match yesterday and I thought there were promising signs that he might come good. Despite some lack of support, he got involved, he made a nuisance of himself, he won a few headers and he held the ball up better than I've seen before. And he seemed to be in the right place at the right time. He's young and inexperienced but he may have started to adjust to life in the Championship. Fingers crossed.

Stroller: "Yeah, I thought it was 4-5-1. Kone has been a big disappointment. Burrell would be more effective than Kone as a lone striker."

The Official match report had us playing 4-2-3-1 and that is how I saw it at the match yesterday. Of course, that can morph into 4-5-1 when you haven't got the ball. I was very pleased that Stephan had at last showed some flexibility and that there is life beyond 4-4-2, especially when you don't really have the fit strikers necessary for that latter formation.

I agree that you need to be flexible, for me though it was 4-5-1 for the second half until Kolli & Bennie came on, by which time Hayden & Madson were holding hands with Cook & Dunne.

He's a centre-forward with no pace, poor control and who doesn't head it. Yes, he needs support, but you've got to be able to make things happen yourself sometimes. Hopefully he just needs more time to show his best, but I think that saying he's been a disappointment up to now is fair comment.
Can't argue with that. He seems to have caught the QPR striker bug...which we desperately need to find a cure for!

Hmmm ...

I’m sure it’s happened but I’m struggling to think of when we’ve done it in my lifetime. There was the 2-2 at Derby and the home game against Brentford but an actual win with two injury time goals.

I can recall once in the early 70s when we were 2-0 ahead at home against Sheffield United and they scored twice in a minute in injury time
to get the draw

TBH, I don't like Morgan at right back he doesn't look comfortable or wise enough to play there.
Which highlights the fact that we haven't done the right business with RB and LB positions, and we haven't done it for about 4 seasons now. We're always short or lacking quality in those two, ultra important positions.

You can see elements of quality in him. I think he's now just short of confidence.

Players usually need one whole season to begin acclimatising to the Championship, which is what Madsen needed.

When he first arrived, he looked good and made an impact in many ways, not just scoring.

But a bit of a drought and being young, his confidence has dropped off.

At this stage, the coaches need to take responsibility and guide him.

But I think he'll be a better player next season.

I think a bit like how a team (Charlton this season) can punch above its weight on the adrenaline and confidence of being on a winning run, he came in with little expectation and had an instant impact. That has subsided a bit and what we really have is a young guy, new to the league and quality of defender who is extremely inexperienced.

I don’t think the expectation was for him to come in and start 40+ games and score 15-20. Next season that is the hope but the rapid decline of Frey, whatever was happening with Kolli plus the absolute ****ing mess they made pre-season of going with Celar and then choosing to sell Kelman meant we were making it up as we went along.
