Yeah, it seems a stupid move to me.

They've clearly done it to try and stop people claiming it to be race related but if anything it makes it worse that they would only do this with a white suspect.

This will just lead to the double standard / two tier policing noise getting louder.
Totally disagree. There is nobody sitting around waiting for a white person to commit crimes so they can turn it into a race war. There is a swathe of people in the UK who worship Tommy Robinson and immediately jumped on this wanting to start something nasty.

Britain is descending into a nasty period and the police have to do what they can to keep the peace.

It is sad that we now have to clarify this every time to stop the bigots attacking people.

This is really quite a ridiculous take on these announcements so you can drive your obsession with racist Britain. It's quite telling that your distaste is directed towards people's reaction to the many terrorist attacks in this country rather than the perpetrators.

Terrorist attacks recently have involved vehicles driven into crowds. Terrorist attacks in this country are overwhelmingly carried out by Muslims who, whether you like it or not, are not usually white. After thousands of deaths by Islamists here, on the continent and in the USA, is it so surprising that race and/or colour gets mentioned? We are in this situation not because of the bigots but because of the widespread, unrelenting attacks on innocent people by one particular group. Your reluctance to accept this points to a pretty warped sense of reasoning.

It may be then that the police are issuing statements like this to re assure all the public that it is unlikely to involve more terrorism and to calm their fears. And that's what is really the sad part.

You don’t?

50 years of (mostly) learning from my mistakes. My point is that politicians don't. They continue to talk the talk on how unfortunate it is for young people to get on the ladder, even anyone to get on it or afford rent even........but continue to rely on the housing market to provide growth in the economy and rely on prices going up to stave off "technical recession." Reality is take away the housing market and we have been in recession for 20 years so they will continue to push that policy despite what they say.

It had to be released early because you can’t trust troglodytes to not start trying to smash their towns up and go after brown people within a couple of hours of an incident like this occurring.

Look at basically any Facebook comment section in the immediate aftermath and it is clear why they have to do it.

Hell, some are getting upset that they released the details early, claiming it is a cover up, or suggesting it was a white Muslim convert anyway.

Trust the evidence of your eyes and ears, it isn’t hard unless you have an agenda.

Thousands of deaths. Muslims. Islamists. Unrelenting attacks.

You have lost it.

Add "the many terrorist attacks" to the list of sensationalist rhetoric. It's the language of the alt right reformists posted as though we're under constant attack that stokes the bigotry.

You're insulting Loading, nothing in his posts intimate this "obsession with racist Britain", "distaste is directed towards people's reaction to the many terrorist attacks in this country rather than the perpetrators.", "Your reluctance to accept this points to a pretty warped sense of reasoning."

This from Neighbourhood Watch puts things into perspective with this summary.
"It is important to remember that the likelihood of you being caught up in a terrorist attack remains very small, but it’s still good to be vigilant."

This comes with the 'it's from Wiki caveat'. It has plenty of links and citations.

I don't think he's been charged as the police have been granted extra time to question him.

Thought I'd let the dust settle before posting on this one.

IMO the Police were right to announce immediately that it was a white British person - sad state of the country really, but necessary to avoid a repeat of last year's riots. The speculation and social media frenzy would have led us to riots again and when it eventually came out he was white, it would have been 'a cover up'. It is a sad state of affairs though that the first thing they have to announce with an incident like this is the color and ethnicity of the perpetrator, almost before saying what actually happened.

I don't have that high opinion as some of you may know of the Police (which is strange as I have never been in trouble with them at all, but I have explained why), but it really highlights to me what a totally thankless job it is - damned if you do and damned if you don't. I have also been reading that there was 'outcry' that they didn't let the mob lynch the driver...WTAF? Are we some medieval country that dishes out punishment like that? They do a job I couldn't do and proves that they can really be presented with anything at anytime when on duty. Yep, they are let down with some on the force, but maybe I shouldn't tarnish approximately 150,000 people on the actions of a few...and actually practice what I preach :)

The attack itself is mindless, and I am so glad that there have been no fatalities. It is literally something that could have happened to anyone of us say walking away from a game - I have often thought how unsafe it is leaving with 30,000 other people when there are cars all around and I feel this will bring in forced exclusion zones at big events.

I can't believe that there are some trying to politicise this. It isn't about politics, policing, race or religion.

I think there are people on here who don’t like this journalist but he’s pretty much the only one I know of who consistently exposes the Farage lies.
He does it so well that even journalists hosting mainstream news shows attack him and try to silence him.

Well said no7.

It’s interesting that the very same people who were outraged that the ethnicity and origin of the Southport murderer weren’t immediately disclosed, are now outraged that the ethnicity and origin of the Liverpool driver WERE immediately disclosed. Some of them are trying to spin this into a “well they wouldn’t have told us if he wasn’t white” situation, while others are actually saying the police are lying, and that the driver isn’t white at all.

All this actually makes it clearer what these sad people are all about. The ONLY thing they care about is sowing division and hatred among us, the ordinary people. Most of us, the vast majority of us, don’t care whether a good person is white or not, or whether a bad person is white or not. To most of us, the most important thing is a person’s character, not the colour of their skin or how much they earn or where they come from.
