Thought I'd let the dust settle before posting on this one.
IMO the Police were right to announce immediately that it was a white British person - sad state of the country really, but necessary to avoid a repeat of last year's riots. The speculation and social media frenzy would have led us to riots again and when it eventually came out he was white, it would have been 'a cover up'. It is a sad state of affairs though that the first thing they have to announce with an incident like this is the color and ethnicity of the perpetrator, almost before saying what actually happened.
I don't have that high opinion as some of you may know of the Police (which is strange as I have never been in trouble with them at all, but I have explained why), but it really highlights to me what a totally thankless job it is - damned if you do and damned if you don't. I have also been reading that there was 'outcry' that they didn't let the mob lynch the driver...WTAF? Are we some medieval country that dishes out punishment like that? They do a job I couldn't do and proves that they can really be presented with anything at anytime when on duty. Yep, they are let down with some on the force, but maybe I shouldn't tarnish approximately 150,000 people on the actions of a few...and actually practice what I preach
The attack itself is mindless, and I am so glad that there have been no fatalities. It is literally something that could have happened to anyone of us say walking away from a game - I have often thought how unsafe it is leaving with 30,000 other people when there are cars all around and I feel this will bring in forced exclusion zones at big events.
I can't believe that there are some trying to politicise this. It isn't about politics, policing, race or religion.
