after pondering the Theresa May issue for a couple of days, reading stuff from the left and the right of politics (and in-between) I have personally concluded that she's pretty crap! Not as crap as Trump or Putin but working on it. U-turning so many policies when she realises that people won't accept them. Bombing another country as a diversionary tactic only worked for 2 days, and wasn't really helpful to her cause because that went down really well didn't it? her stumbling apology to the Windrush people, not convincing. Brexit? All going to plan. She's probably not on my Christmas card list. Although I'm sure she's impressed someone?

I’m not sure where you have this information from, but I was listening to the news on Radio 4 during which a former official made a contribution. He was clear that the decision to use this form of communication would probably not be made by the Home Secretary. Also it was mentioned that former Labour Home Secretary’s had been bearing down hard on illegal immigration since at least 2006. So whilst I share your abhorrence of the van notices, I’m just trying to retain some balance about this issue. I appreciate also that you may disagree with me but I retain the view that TM will be getting this mess sorted out. I am also writing to my MP making sure he knows more about the groundswell opinion and seek assurances about action being taken.

That will be done after Saints have won tonight!
Rare to meet somebody who's more of an apologist than I am :emoticon-0148-yes:.

Thanks. As a country we need to retain our respect and continue to offer opinions to those who would disagree with us. Politicians get elected on their chosen platforms and then have the challenge of meeting as wide an acceptance of their policy(s) as possible. They will get things wrong and unintended consequences will happen. My measure of our political leaders is how they correct mistakes, the attitude in doing so and the acknowledging in full the impact on individuals or groups most affected. I then make my own judgement.

I know, but the fact that she started it in the first place was the point I was making.
Just to confirm what I said i would do in an earlier reply, I have tonight sent a detailed email to my MP requesting a full honest explanation of this whole mess. If I get a reply I’ll post the main points.

Just a thought for those who think the Windrush malarky is an issue but doesn't really, and couldn't affect them.

After 4yrs retired I recently applied for, and was successful in getting a NHS post to help mental heath sufferers gain paid employment. As an ex Nurse, and someone who experienced such health difficulties myself it's something I'm very passionate about.

I 'got' the job 5 weeks ago but am still unable to take up the post. The NHS now expect you to pay for your own DBS (£44), ok, done and all good.
They also under the anti terrorism stuff brought in by May expect me to demonstrate I am entitled to work in the uk. This is a problem apparently despite currently receiving an NHS pension..

I was born in this country, never worked abroad and had a 30yr career in the NHS. I provided a birth certificate copy, photo driving licence, details of my bank account opened in 1973 and list of employers 1973-2014. Not good enough. Because there is a 4yr gap in employment and I hold no CURRENT passport I am seen as 'suspicious' and am required to provide further details (apparently original birth cert + fathers + work references). I've requested the cert stuff (another£25 thanks May), My volunteering reference (4yrs at the local library) is 'unsuitable' so I may yet be refused. Without fibbing (or applying for a Passport I don't need) I can't meet these criteria.

This is how we live now

Is this only related to getting employment in the NHS?
I spent several years in Spain, before getting work in the UK, in the care industry, before taking another two years off to care for my wife, before returning to full employment two years ago, so can’t get my head around why you are being asked to jump through so many unnecessary hoops.

My wife wants to know where you will be deported to. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Apparently all employers and now landlords have obligations under immigration and anti-terrorism laws to check people's status. I suspect the NHS is just playing it 'straight' and following the letter of the law. Just seems crazy when I've 30yrs service in the NHS.

Of course I may've blotted my copybook around 6-7yrs ago while attending a compulsory 'Prevent' workshop. After watching a scary video we were advised on signs to look out for when someone is being radicalised. One of the signs was 'protesting about the war in Iraq'. But that's me I cried, much scribbling in notebooks followed. That's you on a list my mate said smirking, maybe he's right.

If deported I shall move to my mate's place in the Charente and look after his chickens.

How much do tax pay for all the bureaucracy ? The thought of a bigger government, with more bloated pencil pushers doing the minimum work and keeping their head down until they get their pension is scary

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43861391

The government has announced £6m of funding to help children with alcoholic parents get support and advice.

We need to see far more of this. The main political parties joining together to make policies . This is a joint Government/Labour initiative. There are good ideas on both sides and that needs to be recognised more often. Less bickering, opportunism and back stabbing please.
