Rather insanely the only one who seems to have views that have some base in reality is Sunak.

Everyone else is prioritizing corporation tax cuts, or in the case of Braverman corporation tax cuts AND decreasing public spending, plus culture war+ and taking us out of the ECHR.

Well which Tory politician would you say will improve things for the people if they become PM?

And even more than that, which party will improve things?

I may be wrong, but I don’t actually think there is a current party that represents a large proportion of the countries interests. (Those of us that just want a nice, safe place to raise a family without prices surging up).

As far as I can tell, the tories are a corrupt mess of narcissistic vipers who would rather let everyone die than lose a fraction of their wealth. And Labour are… ? Nothing. A “working class” party that doesn’t represent the working class in any way, shape or form and is more interested in woke virtue signalling than forming clear/coherent policies and addressing any real issues.

It’s just a mess. Meanwhile childcare, housing and energy are spiralling out of control whilst the NHS is crumbling as the country struggles to sustain itself and corruption oozes throughout the entire system.

A way of mitigating the national self harm caused by the current brexit would be to re-enter the customs union and free trade agreement. That would mean freedom of movement returns, the big stumbling block for many.
Using similar regulations as many EU sovereign countries do after three months people have to register, show they have means of support including medical care, such that they would not be a.burden on the state. An ID card is issued and the level of benefits is dependent on work history. These rules, so far as I know, have never been applied in the UK during EU membership.
Both Labour and the Tories don't countenance such a move.

Or spin it around the other way. We're less ****ed now than if the country had continued on under Johnson and his cronies.

I hold out a hope that at least this time around we'll have an adult in charge, and at least that will steady the ship. As I've mentioned on here, my preferred candidate would be Tugenhadt, but I don't think he has a chance of winning. I suspect Sunak will win, and though not perfect, he will be better than that ridiculous blancmange that is leaving.

So though of course I understand your concerns, I think believing that we're ****ed is slightly hyperbolic (though yes, Brexit was a staggering piece of self-harm).
 
Labour with a no confidence vote in the government coming today too. Just so we can all watch these hypocrites falling over each other once again, to defend the indefensible and change their tune after sticking the knife into the PM’s administration.
 
The Tories appear to have found a successor for Nadine Dorries.

A BLUNDERING Tory MP sent a good luck message for the Euros to the Welsh women’s football team –which had failed to qualify.

Anglesey MP Virginia Crosbie’s Facebook message said: “I would like to wish all the Welsh squad, their coach Jayne Ludlow MBE and all the team the best of luck in the championship.”

Jayne Ludlow left as coach in 2021 and Crosbie said the opening game was at Wembley when it was at Old Trafford. Social media followers mocked her and said: “Check notes”.

Ms Crosbie, who grew up in the Essex village of Tiptree, blamed her office workers for the blunder, saying: “It was just a training exercise my staff posted by mistake.”

You are absolutely correct IMO, this is exactly how I feel about the current political situation. I didn't vote at the last General Election because I've felt like this for some time. Someone on here (I think it may have been you Os, apologies if not) said I was wasting my vote or words to that effect. No party will be perfect but if you feel strongly about certain issues and they are not addressed across the parties, where do you go? I won't vote Tory for the same reasons you've mentioned but I can't vote Labour when they don't know what a woman is. Their flag waving, virtue signalling is pathetic. The Lib Dems and Green Party are a more woke version of Labour. Politically homeless.

Yes, there is a party for you! The Official Monster Raving Looony Party whose clothiug the Tories have been trying to steal ever since their circus began with the election of Cameron in 2010.

Genuine question. Even if that were true*, I'm interested why that has enough of an effect on your life to cause you not to vote. Why does it bother you?

* In parenthesis I'd argue that it's not - that statement is largely a fiction of the press and the lunatic fringe on the right. They have realised the public has changed its mind on homosexuality. That means gaybashing Labour is out so they have moved on to trans issues using exactly the same tactics as they used to demonise Labour's support of gay people. However, the question above is the one I'm interested in.
