I'd rather Jakupovic started against Chelsea, but I wouldn't be arsed if Marshall started. Marshall didn't really do anything to earn the place. Against Liverpool that is. Against Stoke he was outstanding.

Jak is quite good saving penalties, though you'd hope we'd avoid conceding them in the first place. If it's a penalty shoot out though...
I saw Kuciak play in pre season seemed pretty decent to me. Again you have to question the wisdom of a reduced playing budget and then spun king over 7 million of it on a gk and two untried kids.

From memory, Kuciak was brought in because SB wanted a 3rd goalkeeper, as Watson was not experienced enough. If something happened to McGregor or Jak then he wanted an experienced keeper on the bench.

Maybe, but he did nothing wrong to be dropped; the opposite really.
It seems whenever Jakupovic makes a mistake it just doesn't count, while our other goalies are castigated for the tiniest errors.
That first Arsenal goal was an absolutely shocking piece of goalkeeping from a goalkeeper who has done similar things loads of times before. There was a time last season where McGregor was getting the blame for every goal we conceded. Marshall already is being criticised for conceding 5 despite none of them actually being saveable. The key point with Marshall though is that he's a proven quality goalkeeper. We already know he's excellent before even watching him for us; he's been doing it for years including at this level.

You've got that completely backwards PLT. Ever since his Sheffield Wednesday screw up Jak has been criticised as unreliable and an accident waiting to happen by some on here. On the few subsequent occasions that he started a game his critics were out in force even if he played a blinder (vis Arsenal cup game). When he made a poor clearance, under pressure due to Brady's unnecessary back pass, which resulted in Wanyamas goal, he was slated, although McGregors even worse clearance which put us out of Europe, which he repeated a week after Jaks, received a "pass" from our online pundits. McGregor was shocking in our relegation season, continually failing to get down to make easy saves. Now Marshall gives up three goals against Liverpool, including one penalty, which were far more saveable than Walcott's Arsenal goal, but you incredibly describe them as "not actually saveable". What game were you watching FFS????
This season in four games Jak was selected online for the all-European team one week, and the EPL TOW another week. His early save from Sigurdsson in the Swansea game, which prevented us going behind and eventually contributed to our win, was world-class, incredible! Jak indeed needs be judged by the same standard as other keepers. By that standard he is definitely our #1.
Look at some of the posts about him this week. People are amazed he was dropped and even saying he did nothing wrong. Canada has just excused the Arsenal gaffe by calling it a Walcott screamer that he could do nothing about and even suggested that Marshall has done worse because he didn't save two penalties.
This thread is "Phelan out" (which I definitely don't agree with) so why has it decended into a Jak v Marshall thread when we already have one?

David Marshall is, IMO, an absolutely outstanding goalkeeper.
He could play for a top four side and was subject to serious interest from Arsenal and Spurs only 2 years ago, the price being touted was £15 million.
Ask any Cardiff fan what they think of him and see what the answer is.

I have seen him on highlghts, not live as you have, but, like CANADATIGER, i think he is slow down to the ball, unlike Jak. I think that is critical in the PL, a quality above what he has done. But it is all early days and I will be more than happy to be wrong. I accept his distribution is better, but I would rather keep the ball out of the net. If Marshall is played, which I think he will be, then I think Jak will move. Probably always the plan.
