Not likely he'll be fired before you lot are safe, there's not many available at the minute with any decent reputation and it's not the time to be fishing around your backroom staff for somebody who has never managed a game in his life, club legend or otherwise.

In Pardew's own words he had a decent squad for yesterday and he watched and did nothing whilst his team were pulled apart by their local rivals. He was tactically clubbed to death by a guy who has 1 premier league game under his belt as manager.

I've stuck up for Pardew this season but enough really is enough. We have been absymal all season and yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back. Saying the players were tired is a pathetic excuse for that level of performance. I'm still fuming from it. That was the most gutless derby performance I can remember in my lifetime.

I'm rather suprised that such an erudite wordsmith as your goodself should express such an opinion, pray tell me when Mr Ashley takes on board your obvious penchant for all things football and dispenses with Pardew's services, who do you advocate should take up the managerial reigns?

My breath is baited with excited anticipation.

Everyone predicted Southampton would drop like a stone when they brought in Pochettino. We beat them at SJP, but they were pretty impressive for large portions of the game.

Imagine what a Pochettino or a Laudrup could do with the players we have?

Some names that may be an option in the summer:

    - Rudi Garcia (leaving Lille at end of season)
    - Christian Streich (Freiburg manager, very good technically)
    - René Girard (league winner with MHSC, but taken them as far as budget allows. Plays good football, French)

    or, maybe less likely...

    - Laurent Blanc (available, but probably out of our reach)
    - Sami Hyppia/Lewandowski (Leverkusen. Probably Champions League qualification, but may fancy a go at the Premier League)
    - Christophe Galtier (ASSE.. .as above though)

Sums it up for me, would let him see the season out because sacking him with 5 games left could ultimately do more harm than good, hope he accumulates the 4-6 points needed for a survival and appoint a new manager with and give him a full pre-season to work with our players.

Poll results from a bigger forum I'm a member of:

"Have you lost faith in Alan Pardew?"

    Yes (253) 95.1%

    No (13) 4.9%

    Says a lot.

If we did get rid of Pardew and replace him with a foreign manager it would be quite strange really. The club hasn't really flirted much with managers who are not English, Scottish or Irish. Gullit was the last, and before him Ardiles. Other than those two, have we had any others?

Think if Ashley intends to make changes it should be as soon as we are mathematically safe. Don't see it happening though.

Technically Chris Hughton was foreign (as opposed to Northern Irish) - even if he didn't have the strongest Irish accent you've ever heard!

The English managers are all far from the intelligencia required in the modern game.

I know I'm in the minority here but I firmly believe Pardew should not be sacked, either before or after the season finishes. If there's a manager out there that's never made mistakes then let's get him, I'm sure he'll come for the same money Pardew's on and jump at the chance to join a club where he'll have no say in transfer budgets or indeed the transfer policy. Whilst we've had a poor season compared to last, where the tactically inept Pardew got us to 5th place, we no longer occupy column inches for being a " laughing stock " and " and the "joke club " of the Premier League. I think that has more relevance than a poor season football wise.

Pardew has got it wrong at times this season both with tactics and selections, which manager doesn't, however he's also got it right and if we do want stability in the club, which we certainly are achieving finanancially then I believe we've got to stick with him. I think the over achievement last year has left a lot of us with higher than reasonable expectation levels for this season and whilst I'm not particularly happy with our league position, I don't honestly believe all the blame lies on Pardew's shoulders. It's still relatively early days in his managerial tenure at the club so let's give the bloke the chance to put this season behind us, learn from it and move on.

We're a minority of two by the looks of it Jim! <laugh> Lets hope Mike has the nuts for the unpopular decision. Shall I go and play this outside his house?

I don't think Mike is likely to start comfort eating again and sack Pardew because of the reaction to yesterday's equivalant to the feeding of the five thousand. I just think the bloke is getting a load of unfair flack and personally think he's not only the right man to take us forward in football terms but I also think he's a good fit for the club.

The last manager in charge when Sunderland beat us 3-0 at SJP wasn't sacked. He then went on and lost the away game 3-0. Still wasn't sacked. We finished 20th (out of 22 with only 2 up 2 down then) and he still wasnt sacked. Next year he was in charge when we qualified for Europe. Year after that he was in charge when we won our last piece of silverware - the Fairs Cup!

The grass is always greener - except it rarely is!

I'm with you two! (but only just)...

Based on what he's done for the club before this season, I think he deserves time to put it right, I'm not as fickle as some!

A poor loss against our rivals shouldn't lead to any kneejerk reactions. A bit more luck this week and we could have potentially been through to a Europa Semi and 1-1 with 30 mins to go on sunday. Wasn't to be though.

Have to say his switch to 4-4-2 after 20 mins on sun was bizarre though, and I think he needs to improve next season. David Moyes finished 17th in one of his early seasons with Everton, but look how that's turned out.

If that isn't a good enough reason for keeping Pardew in charge then I don't know what is, what your saying is that if Pardew doesn't win a Trophy next season he's got to go?

We'll win a trophy next season and finish in the top six with Pardew in charge, trust me I'm a doctor.
