If that isn't a good enough reason for keeping Pardew in charge then I don't know what is, what your saying is that if Pardew doesn't win a Trophy next season he's got to go?

We'll win a trophy next season and finish in the top six with Pardew in charge, trust me I'm a doctor.

I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. i just know everyone else disagrees with it whatever it is <cry>

And how many games have you sat through for 90 minutes this season James?

The fact I can't get to many games anymore doesn't preclude me from watching games on the box, reading newspapers, talking to people that do go or indeed having an opinion on what I believe, and really has no relevance. That's like saying because I'm not a train spotter I don't know what one looks like.

I've watched much sh*te at SJP and many other grounds over the last 6 decades, and in the past have made it known if I felt a change of manager would be the way forward. I just don't think that Pardew deserves the stick he's getting at the present and personally think that he's intelligent enough to learn from this season and move forward. There's not a manager on the planet that doesn't make mistakes, suffer from injuries or have periods when the players lose concentration in games which turn potential positive results into bad ones. The good managers learn from both good and bad situations and I think Pardew comes under that category, however he needs time to do it.

We're not talking about six decades ago, we're talking about here and now. I've sat through every game home and away for 90 minutes and I'm sick of the **** we're being served up!

If he hasn't learned enough by now, he's a hell of a slow learner!

I'd give him time, ten years hard labour!

Is this the same slow learner that everyone was tugging their chains over after he'd navigated us to 5th position last season which most pundits agreed was an outstanding achievement, hence the manager of the year award. I think there's many circumstances outside his control(other than the useless tw*t got us into Europe in the first place) that have culminated in a difficult season this year.

I'm with you two! (but only just)...

Based on what he's done for the club before this season, I think he deserves time to put it right, I'm not as fickle as some!

A poor loss against our rivals shouldn't lead to any kneejerk reactions. A bit more luck this week and we could have potentially been through to a Europa Semi and 1-1 with 30 mins to go on sunday. Wasn't to be though.

Have to say his switch to 4-4-2 after 20 mins on sun was bizarre though, and I think he needs to improve next season. David Moyes finished 17th in one of his early seasons with Everton, but look how that's turned out.

Woohoo we have 4 loyalists! Just 1 more and we have a five a side team.

In all seriousness he has to learn from the mistakes this season, as do Mike, and the players. Personally I'd like more patience from the fans but I don't think that is realistic if you look at recent history and the modern thinking on management.

The point you make about Moyes is very valid. He was being slaughtered, his tactics ridiculed, everything Pardew is getting and more. Kenwright etc said "no we wait". They now have impeccable consistency and he is loved by them all. SAF was even worse. He spent fortunes in the process of his ****ty early seasons. Edwards said "no we wait". You have to be patient for me.

Of course if we don't take our medicine and learn then that is different. We can't go on making the same mistakes. The coaching has not been good, they have never fathomed out how to get round the problem of lack of preparation time for games. I accept that many good managers (Jol, Moyes, etc) have all failed at this. Maybe a stronger manager takes the flack from fans though, and just goes to a skeleton effort in Europe?

I said before this season started the Europa concerned me. Physically it is a drainer but my major concern was our paper thin coaching team/squad and the preparation time for games. If you don't have the players and the staff, you end up rocking up half cocked. There is no hiding place for that in the PL. Before you know it confidence is drained and you're wondering where the next win is coming from.

Our whole 5th place finish was based on knowing our foe inside out, nulifying them and the confidence gained from being well prepared allowing us to express ourselves. That went out the window this season. We have looked extremely disjointed. What concerns me is Pardew saying they were "winging" at times in the derby. Yes we were. But I hope he is doing more than just acknowledging it and actually thinking about solutions. The set pieces are a disgrace. We must sort that problem in the summer, it is about being well drilled. Nothing wrong with looking to the likes of Man U, Stoke who are good at them.

The one critical thing Pardew got wrong this season (and very early on) was constantly playing Cisse on the wing just to appease sulky ****y Demba Ba. It really hit the lads confidence and regardless of that he has scored 14 goals in both cup and league. Pardew took one of the most inform strikers and dropped him to a secondary position just to make a miserable bastard a little less miserable. If Cisse played upfront from the start he would have 20 + goals in the league let alone the cup and the wretched misses infront of goal since Jan wouldn't be as commonplace or ultimately (hope ****ing not) proving costly in the relegation battle we find ourselves in.

Agree with you about this. It was a no win situation and he backed the wrong horse with hindsight. I can understand him wanting to keep Ba happy with the threat of the release clause there and not wanting to lose a top quality striker. He should have stuck with what was working and told Ba to like it or lump it. No one player is bigger than the club and I hope he has learned from this.

Aslong as we stay up il be happy , this year has been aweful apart from the Europe run ! now we are out of that lets just focus on the next few games, ensure we are still in the prem and then build in the summer ready for a normal season in the Prem where we will have plenty of time for preperation . Its pointless getting rid of AP now , we will achieve nothing by being like this. Next year will be the deciding season .

It's none negotiable he has to go in the summer
He screwed up yesterday and nothing he can do will fix
That IMO

Newcastle United will not make any knee-jerk reactions to their derby day defeat against Sunderland.

And while there was fan fury in the aftermath of the 3-0 home defeat against Sunderland, Alan Pardew will remain in charge for the final five games of the Premier League campaign.

Of course, Pardew only signed an eight-year contract this season and Newcastle are planning for the long term.

However, the Chronicle understands that a full review will take place at the end of the season as the board and Pardew discuss the expectations.

The issue of the derby defeat will also be discussed with fan confidence taking a hit after United’s worst loss in the fixture since 1979 causing fury amongst fans.

In the mean time Pardew will lift his players for Saturday’s trip to West Brom on Saturday for what has now turned into a crucial trip to the Hawthorns.

It's quite possible that the players might have lost any respect they had for him and he wont be able to lift their spirit or game.

Surely a review would happen as a matter of course Every Season, I hardly think the board will say, 'Thanks Alan, see you at the start of next season.'
This could be press mischief making, as for knee jerk reaction, I think Ashley learned his lesson losing a manager when it's so close to the end of the season>

Agree. This just shows how weak Pardew is as a manager. Can you ever expect Alex Ferguson or Mourinho play someone in a certain position if he were unwilling to sacrifice for his team? They'd have told him to sod off. Pardew caved in when Ba was unhappy. Cisse was sacrificed to the flank where he was apeshit.

It was already proven that Cisse was the better player up front last season, and all Pardew did to appease Ba was to make Cisse forget all the instincts and overload him with having to learn a new position and track back and defend etc.

Cisse should never smell the flanks ever again. And we need a better 2nd striker to help out than Shola who can't even manage 5 minutes of positive contribution to the team.
