My thoughts to the families of the two lads. We are footballing rivals but just fans at heart. Devastating for those left behind.

:emoticon-0150-hands.As a Newcastle United fan and season ticket holder for over 33 years I would like to thank all you Sunderland fans for the kind words and unbelievable fund raising effort.Hats off to you all and may we all be safe enjoying the sport we love.......

RIP lads, it is such an utter tragedy that I still find hard to take in. I hope your families and those many others that are living through this nightmare find peace.

Don't worry about it mate.
Lets just hope it never happens again eh?

I see it is at fourteen grand now.
Very good effort, I'm sorry that I only chipped twenty quid in.
It was all I could afford.
I feel heartily sorry for those lads families.
Sorry, just getting a bit chopped up about it.

I contributed, because I was very moved by this gesture from people who we have come to consider our bitterest enemies.

Respect to Sunderland. I just hope this leads to something positive, specifically that damned military operation on derby days to keep the fans apart. It's just ridiculous.

I'm happy to contribute because it's the right thing to do.

I've no idea what good will come of it but I, like many people, feel unable to do much else.

Nothing will ever end the pain for any of the family, relatives and friends involved .......... what a terrible world this can be.

Its great to see our two sets of supporters acting in harmony, if this could be maintained it would be the finest tribute to these two amazing lads who by all accounts were a tribute to the north east, that we could pay. The crowds at the world cup showed that it is possible for rivalry to exist without violence. An end to violence would be something if it could be achieved. Why not start with our derby matches, it would need both sides acting together to achieve this, it could spread across the country and be a national movement and lasting testament would it not.

I'd be surprised if it could be maintained. People from Newcastle and Sunderland have hatred ingrained in them. Coming from the middle you see how both sets of supporters can get on. I once went to Hendon for a night out and had to disguise my accent for fear of the locals. More should be done to combat hatred, maybe money taken from Racism campaigns and used to educate the kids?

How will Newcastle supporters feel about going to Russia for the next World Cup.

If I was a Newcastle player I'd be all over the media saying I would not be prepared to play in the World Cup in Russia as things stand.

I believe FIFA should issue a statement saying Russia's holding of the event is officially in jeopardy.

These lunatics shouldn't be allowed to murder British people on a whim.

Cameron's response is an absolute disgrace.

I would be surprised too, but it could be done, the trouble seemed to start in the 70's and has got worse. Until then I remember many supporters including myself went to both grounds without any bother.
As a postscript I live in Roker and feel nervous in parts of Hendon :)
