I saw there was a £500 Anonymous donation the other day. Great stuff. Wish I could afford more than a fiver.
Nothing but respect to the Sunderland fans who set this up, to all those who have contributed and to the (vast majority of) North-East football family (and further afield) who have set aside tribal loyalties to respect something far more important. Well done lads
Can I donate through paypal ?. My mother died of cancer and they are getting closer to curing it thankfully. Surely a match could be arranged for the two men who died and the proceeds go to their famalies.
GENEROUS donations will see a permanent memorial created to two soccer fans killed when Flight MH17 was downed over Ukraine. Newcastle United supporters John Alder and Liam Sweeney died earlier this month after the plane they were travelling on was allegedly targeted by pro-Russian forces. The pair were going to see their team play pre-season games in New Zealand. Following their deaths, Sunderland fans, along with supporters of other clubs, have helped raised more than £32,000, which will go towards charities chosen by relatives of the tragic Newcastle fans. Sunderland fan and memorabilia collector Michael Ganley also launched a charity auction of SAFC and NUFC pieces to generate cash towards a plaque at St James’ Park which will remember both John, 63, and Liam, 28. A total of £700 has been raised from the sale, which included NUFC shirts and programmes signed by Magpies players. Michael said: “Thanks to the two winners of the shirts. “They obviously care a lot. “Hopefully the club will allow us to create a plaque dedicated to fans who never came home.”
