I know OLM normally posts this kind of thing but he might be busy....

Have to say this concept is ****loads better than the turgid offerings produced by the Highway Agency. Of course we havent got an insight into respective associated costs here but it just shows the benefit of doing it 'right' rather than cheaply. Of course they won't use this design but the best we can hope for is that this design makes the council planning authority grow some balls and demand betetr from the HA.
 
That does look good. I wonder what the cost of maintaining the suspended element back to Princes Quay would be.

It looks great, but they're never going to fund a bridge that goes all the way from the city centre straight to the Marina, it bypasses Prinny Quay and everything alongside the Quay...

It looks great, but they're never going to fund a bridge that goes all the way from the city centre straight to the Marina, it bypasses Prinny Quay and everything alongside the Quay...

It doesnt does it? Looks to me like it links perfectly with the side entrance to Princes Quay, opposite the Quayside. If that's the case it would link perfectly with the main area half way along Princes Dock Street.

Actually, you're right, I thought it was the end, but it actually meets the bridge half way down.

I still think the land bridge is a more practical proposition though.
 
I'm a total pleb in these matters, but isn't the problem here that this is a highways agency scheme.

My point being, all they are concerned about is managing and improving the road network. So getting rid of the pedestrian crossing, that disrupts the flow of traffic, is job done for them. They don't worry about the wider issues here.

What the city actually needed was a much wider scheme, with a key focus of linking the marina area back into the city centre.

Can't help but feel we'll end up with a ****ty bridge and an opportunity missed.

The A63 is a Trunk Road designed for long distance travel, but a lot of the traffic is local traffic from the villages coming into Hull.

The Highways Agency can show this, which could be used to suggest the Local Authority improve their arterial roads to accomodate local traffic. I'm sure ERYC would chip in to this too. <cool>

These bridges annoy me! 'well people need to go across that road which is about 25 foot across but I know we will make it so that everybody has to walk 50 foot by going round in bloody circles' Just stupid

blame the need for disabled access , blame the fact that toerags would vandalise any elevator and also that there isnt much room for maneuver
 
i thought it was supposed to be lowering the road and all of that area being a land bridge, really connecting the marina to the centre

a bridge seems a bit futile

The A63 only backs up at the Smith & Nephew flyover, anyone from the villages with half a brain has already turned off by then.
 
i still think part of the way to solve the up n down-ness of the bridge AND solve some security/safety issues - which i see as only ever being a concern to many when crossing such a long bridge, would be to start it somehow at Prinny Quay (theres no real reason PQ can't be treated as a high street to allow pedestrians access through it - i know when the store is closed there is an issue , but it could be resolved.

If that's true, the traffic surveys carried out suggest there's only a handful of village people with half a brain then.

That actually fits with a lot of anecdotal evidence too. <laugh>
