I've no idea who surveyed the traffic, but perhaps they asked the vehicles the wrong questions?

Only if the vehicle was registered at the wrong address. They used NPR backed up by other surveys and interviews which showed a significant percentage on the trunk road was in fact local traffic.

I can only see major problems with the road flooding with the plans with this statement

"The current proposals envisage the road being lowered by about 7m into a cutting, while drivers heading between Ferensway and Commercial Road would pass overhead on a raised road."

Most people I know coming from Brough or Ferriby have turned off by the Humber Bridge exit

A few years ago, a Professor at Hull Uni developed a software package aimed at encouraging drivers to do exactly that at certain congested times, but it died as few followed the advice.

Although the connections to Princes Quay always seems to be in the equation I think the future of the shopping centre needs to be secure in the long term, as of this moment in time I find it a shadow of its former self. Yes St Stephens is the new star of the shopping sky so Princes Quay need a huge turnaround to make it more like it was. Whenever I visit Princes Quay, which isn't often these days, I find footfall poor and if it wasn't for Primark I would think that things would be even worse, which is a shame for such a prime position.

There was an application to build a bridge in 2002 on the same site, to a similar design.

It was rejected.

Reading the letters of some of those objecting is hilarious. That includes the Hull Civic Society. The chief laugh being that it would somehow make the marina less accessible to pedestrians :emoticon-0112-wonde

Also mentions of a similar bridge proposed in 1989 and development of the fruit market, humber quays and Castle Road which goes back decades.

We really seem to have dragged our feet in the past. Really hope things are finally moving.

Looks like they're doing some test drilling already, let's hope they do a better job than they did on the tunnel under the river Hull !!

It'll be interesting if they're drilling where that bridge is shown. If it's where I think it is, they're right over the culvert that links the two docks.

Unless they've done some more, the recent drilling was samples for the road scheme.
