You do know though, that the stats for FM & Fifa are taken from statistics used by all major clubs and using the same database as scouts, coaches and managers.

The stats, at least on the physical side, are the most accurate you will see anywhere, every touch is analysed.

I didn't to be fair but obviously there are anomalies in there meaning it's probably not as accurate as they'd like.

It’s easy to track a players physical capability, and that’s why they are used and trusted.

The mentality thing, that’s what makes great players, and a great manager spots this.

Take Ronaldo, 34 years old but still fights every day to be better. He never thinks ‘I’m Ronaldo’ he thinks ‘I need to work hard to keep being Ronaldo’.

That’s where so many fall flat. Thinking they’ve made it when they have just started.

Natural talent is a base, physical also. Again, Ronaldo was as skinny as a rake when he joined United, and he’s naturally tall but thin. Pure determination and graft made him that physically strong.

Stats can’t show this.

Great post. And actually sets out the exact reason why I favour Ronaldo in the rather tiresome Ronaldo v Messi debate.

I prefer Ronaldo as well, for similar reasons.

I dont think there’s any question whatsoever that Messi was the most naturally gifted.

Ronnie made himself the best, and proved himself time and time again.

Messi for me for the opposite reasons, I'm always drawn more to the talented maverick than the slightly less talented grafter. Respect for both though of course.

Federer over Nadal is another one.

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer in the debate, it personal choice.

Same with the tennis.

Just magnificent sportsman, the lot of them.

Natural talent alone, there’s no debate. It’s none of the above. It’s Ronaldinho.

He never showed up to training, preferred parties and chasing poon. Prime example.

My kind of sportsman. Ronnie O'Sullivan's another, barely play all season then turn up to the world championship and win it.

I ****ing love Ronnie mate, one of my ultimate sporting idols.

He can do what he wants. He could knock in 147’s all day, he just doesn’t need to, or can’t be arsed. He’s a one off. There will never be a better player on pure ability.

Aye same here mate big fan of his, outside of football him and Federer are my idols. Love the nonchalant way he plays left handed when he wants to, he must piss a lot of the other players off <laugh>

Can't blame him for that like, with a face like that you're gonna make the most of your time as a famous sportsman aren't ya?!
