'Hard Men' managers like Pearson and keane being the answer. They are not these days and it has been a while since they were. Keane has been an utter failure since he left safc and reality is that he needs a bottomless chequebook otherwise he is snookered. Pearson likewise has done nothing since he left and his interpersonal skills coupled with his belief in his own infallibility would have him at odds with every man and his dog within 6 months.

Oh great he scored goals for us therefore he loves and 'gets' us! What absolute frog5hit. He couldnt wait to leave. Even though he had an ok career and aspires to be a manager, 10 years on he still remains stuck being the one who sets out the cones and sweeps dressing rooms.
If he is a manager why has he not thrown his hat in the ring somewhere like hartlepool? Proper managers like fergie, clough and shankly were happy to start at the bottom. Is he too good for this?
This in spades.
Haven't always agreed with what you say on here Fulwell but you've got this one spot on. Good post.

I’d say Stendel. Has experience of getting promoted from this division and managed to do it on a lower budget. Had them playing decent football while also keeping a good defence too.

I know ultimately a 6 minute video really means f**k all, he's won me round with his enthusiasm, style of football and the fact he got Barnsley promoted. They may be in the bottom 3 of the championship but it looks a pretty rash decision by them.

They got rid of the players who got them promoted in the summer and he didn’t seem to be able to have the money to replace them. Look how charlton are doing with a similar team to the one they had last season.

Yep.

He had no say in sales and recruitment, they ripped the heart out of a lovely attacking side with a cracking pair of CB’s, and expected anything other than struggle in a tough league?

He’s unscathed for me, the reaction of the Barnsley fans says it all.

He’s the one for me.

Im torn now between him and Phillips simply because of Phillips’ enthusiasm for wanting the job. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I just think it’s too important a time for Kev.

Obviously I’d love him to come here and make a success and **** me imagine the atmosphere for his first game?

We haven’t time for romance and it’s one of them ain’t it? Mind, every team he’s done coaching for has done well, that’s a point of note.

As usual you make great points but can I say in defence of Kevin Philips he loyally stood by Peter Reid, to long for his own good really , but whether this had anything to do with Sunderland is not clear, but he was not busting a gut to leave as you infer. Having said that I fully agree with your arguments, I do not want him back as manager,or any dour hard man type either, its a different ball game these days. The influx of foreign players, ideas and fitness levels blew them and their drinking culture, completely out of the water
Even though something needed to be done, I do not envy SD's task and am puzzled by it tbh, it all seems a bit knee jerk rather than well considered. <ok>
