The problem is, Pochettino showed what is possible with an average squad of players. The fitness and discipline he had us playing with was second to none. Has Hughes shown that calibre of management anywhere he has been?
I would say that he hasn’t. He does have the character to get us into shape and instill some solidity though.
I have been hoping for a return to high-pressing football with each appointment since Poch, but we keep regressing with each appointment.
I think Pochettino is just a truly, truly special manager and has heightened my expectations. Either way, if Hughes isn’t appointed I will back him as ever

He’s kept us up mate, Hughes got canned from Stoke for leaving them in the relegation zone.

Frying pan and fire comes to mind.

Hopefully he'll keep us up mate, wouldn't have been my first choice but he's undoubtedly better than Pellegrino.

Not a massively exciting appointment but I'm much more confident of both a win on Sunday and our chances of staying up than I was yesterday.

I will back him if he is appointed but Hughes wouldn't be in my thinking for more than the rest of this season at best
The second rate managerial merry go round continues, its just a shame we are jumping on board

<laugh>
Imagine, dangling over a cliff, your hands starts to slip, a guy throws down a rope, and you say....
'Not that one, I don't like it, can you get me a different one?'
Time is running out.

Hmm, I’m not sure. We are still effectively a footballing super power, by virtue of the amount of money in the premier league. To jump on the manager merry-go-round and appoint one of those old managers is unimaginative and reeks of a club that doesn’t carry out the due diligence it says it does..

What we need right here right now , is a manager with PL experience and someone that can turn this ship around . That IMHO is all that matter for the next few games .

Footballing super power <doh>

We're ****ing Southampton mate in case you haven't noticed, cheers for giving me a good laugh at work though <rofl>

I doubt anyone wanted Hughes as a first choice but it's a relatively safe choice and it's not like we're in a great situation and blessed with options.

What it reeks of to me is a club that really, really wanted to let their manager see out the season, despite all the evidence pointing to it being the wrong move and making the decision to change right at the last minute leaving them no time at all to sound out a "risky" appointment. We had to go for someone like Hughes at this point, the question will be whether it is just for the season (unlikely as I doubt he would accept a contract for that length of time) or whether he is the man to take us into next season as well.

Footballing super power might be a bit far, but in terms of money we can offer we are compared to clubs abroad. Just look at the players joining ****e like Saints and Stoke from historical super powers to see how attractive the PL is.

That's not really relevant to attracting a manager with only 8 games left.
