IIRC didn't part of Hoddles problem lay with the arrogance he showed to other players ? That is not what we need .
... was listening to talkSport on way in to work this morning ... Ray Parlour was advocating Mark Hughes ... have to admit that the thought of Mark Hughes coming in to my own club would have just about tipped me over the edge ... irrespective of how dire the club's situation was ... ... if it was me ... and looking at the realistic / available candidates... I'd be favouring Silva or de Boer ... the former has shown that he can have an impact and play attractive football, the latter I don't think had a fair crack of the whip at Palace although 'hitting the ground running' given his time there, might be problematic ...
We just desperately needed a change. Now we got it, we are just clinging to the hope we get a quick appointment. We have wasted many a month already.
Actually from a crap source..............But the suggestion did bring a smile to my contact..........
Hughes 4/7 favourite, Silva 2/1, Tuchel third favourite at 14/1, though I suspect that’s wishful betting!
It's a safe appointment but a good one IMO. We can't afford to take a risk with this one and we're not. He's not everyones cup of tea but he has a strong personality and that's what we need.
I think he was actually moving Stoke away from the Pulis legacy, but didn't really get the support he needed from the board to do that. Not overly confident that he'll find our board any more forthcoming in that regard, but his first job is to keep us in the PL - while winning the FA Cup. What our squad needs in the short term is leadership, and I think he can offer us that.
I will be happy with Hughes. Proven EPL experience and you know what? The results should be better and in what universe could our style of play be worse than we have endured over the last 2 seasons?
I'd be more than happy to see Hughes come here. Especially given the hole that we've dug for ourselves, and the lack of options as a consequence. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
We were blessed with Poch and then the results of Koeman, we then gambled our good work with relative unknowns from abroad and it backfired. Even if Hughes isn't the man to take us back into Europe (providing we stay up), I think the club and the fans could do with a period of stability with him, where we aren't fighting for survival and aren't selling our best players every summer. It may lack a bit of ambition to start with, but I think we need a little period to just build up again slowly - if we manage to stay up then I don't want to come this close to relegation for a long time because it's looked very bleak all season. So many people have fallen out of love with the club because of selling players or style of play etc, so in my opinion it's time to rebuild a bit of an identity we can be proud of.
He’s kept us up mate, Hughes got canned from Stoke for leaving them in the relegation zone. Frying pan and fire comes to mind.
Pellegrino was a frying pan on a bonfire, so I'll take my chances with a bit of oven heat. Desperate times.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned the conflict between him and MLT when they played together for Saints. MLT was sent on as a sub resulting in Hughes rushing across to the bench and yelling ‘f**** hell, now you want us to play with 10 men...’ Will never forgive him for that and will not welcome him back (he hated his time here as a player) but my support for the team will be beyond question. Anyone who thinks he did a good job at Stoke - can you remind me about their silverware or European tours? Four years of mid table mediocrity.
Well, Matt isn't play here now, so if he wants to drill our boys and get more effort from them, I'd be happy with that. I liked Mark when he played for us, unlucky to have a goal taken away from him against Leeds, and came close to scoring some beauties. We need passion, we need leadership, we need someone to assert some authority.
