And he got a game out of Ben Arfa, that's a bloody achievement in anyone's books.

Also has the deal for Mendy to Leicester gone through? Could be a great replacement for VW?

You see, when people get so hung up on win % (which has been good across all clubs that he has managed) they don't look beyond that. Sounds like a pretty good set of achievements to be fair.
It shows he's gone into several environments and forged a winning mentality.

Time spent at clubs:

Monaco - two years
Lille - six years
Lyon - three years
Nice - four years

I can see why, coupled with the above, Saints having great talks with a lot of shared ideas over philosophy would make him their man.

From SaintsWeb user SaintMatty79...

1st Job, Monaco:
Won the league in his only full season in charge

2nd Job, Lille:
Took them to CL twice, finished 2nd in 2005 (highest finish in 50 years)

3rd Job, Lyon:
Took them to CL semis for first time in history

4th Job, Nice:
Took them to 4th in the league, they were 13th when he arrived

He's not quite right on Monaco, I don't believe. He won the title in his first full season in charge ('99/'00), but it appears he managed all of the '00/'01 season as well, and was let go at the end of the season when they tumbled to 11th. Selling Trezeguet was probably a major contributing factor there, heh.

He'll be more of a yes man than Koeman I suspect, which may not be a bad thing...
Not sure where you've got that from. Some French chaps I remember reading last week, when Puel's name continued to rise in speculation, said that he's very much a 'my way or the highway' man. Which, however, if 'my way' is also 'the Southampton way' might not be a bad thing.

Another update from the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...uel-emerges-as-front-runner-to-succeed-ronal/

- Claude Puel now the clear front-runner
- Appointment likely to be made next week
- Saints impressed by his ideas and how he's operated previously
- Seriously explored the possibility of Pellegrini
- Didn't feel that he fitted the club ethos and coaching approach
- Redmond signing imminent, as we've been told before
****ing hell. :(

Ladbrokes and paddy power didn't have any odds on Claude last Friday when I asked in the shops and now it's looking likely to be the new man......
Anyway if you are appointed Claude....welcome aboard :emoticon-0148-yes:

He looks like he should be working in Gringotts.

He's only managed in the French League which is so so weak. I have massive doubts over his ability to adapt to managing in the PL. If he was joining a bottom half team then maybe but he's going to have to get us in the top 10 at least, plus get us into the EL knockout stages. If he proves me wrong I'll be happy but surprised. Massive risk Saints. Massive, massive risk.
