And therein lies the problem. It must be incredibly difficult to succession plan in this business, there are so many short term variables. The days of seamless transfer from Shankly to Paisley to ***an....or Greenwood to Lyall.... with no change in philosophy or methodology are long gone in the modern world. I wouldn't mind betting Man City were thinking Pep to Arteta,no problem,....only to get undone.
It's up to the club to establish the philosophy and recruit the people to enact it. Unfortunately though,we could have a list as long as your arm of potential appointments as and when it becomes necessary, but that list could evaporate within weeks as all the other factors come into play.
I think that's what happened to us in the aftermath of Beale leaving. Targets we may have had as available, suddenly became unavailable...or at least unavailable for the time being.... and we've had to redraw the list, make fresh approaches and be patient...( something us fans don't really understand!)
In the face of the ever increasing barrage of criticism towards KS and the Board,it may be necessary for us to reflect that it might not be quite as easy as we think it is.
