Skubala is an interesting one as he went to Lincoln as Head Coach and didn't take any staff with him or bring his own staff. In fact the first team coach was promoted to his assistant, like Dodds was with Beale.

Just as a counter argument to those who think Beale only failed because he "wasn't allowed" to bring staff with him.

Beale failed because he's not any good. As predicted by 99% of us but Speakman new better..........only he didn't.

You have our captain calling the main man doddsy ffs. That's the lack of standards right there.
Might not always agree with what you say mate but I also picked up on that and it wasn't just him I'm sure Jobe did as well.
I know he's standing in and normally on the training pitch he would be doddsy, but when he's the main man you can't be friends, there has to be a line

Absolutely. I always think there has to be a line. An unspoken fear / respect for the gaffa.

Not in the slightest surprised at this Doddsy rubbish.
Stinks of unprofessionalism, low standards and mediocrity. I'm struggling to think of anything speakman has got right since replacing Neil with Mowbray.
Probably signing Bellingham but nowt else.

I totally agree with you but it's not that unusual. I've heard plenty of players calling managers by first name or nickname in interviews. This isn't the best example, but if you read this, it might even be Doddsy's choice.

Yeah completely agree with this. I completely get why O'Nien calls Dodds "Doddsy", and in a way its neither of their fault for being put in this situation. But Dodds should be insisting he gets called "Gaffer" or "Boss". And O'Nien should be savvy enough to know as the senior player that when he talks about Dodds he should be calling him that.

It may seem a minor point. But if O'Nien is calling him "Doddsy" to the media, he's also calling him it when he discusses him "within the group".

It just highlights the lack of leadership, and a lack of "ownership" between Dodds and O'Nien in instilling that leadership.

The players know that mate ...

... I'd guess it's the players way of giving their clear opinion of Dodds, 'nice lad, not a leader'.

O'Nien may not be Bobby Moore but he's definitely media savvy and doesn't shoplift in jewellery stores.

I don't mind the players calling him Doddsy, everyone knows it's only a temporary situation while we get to the end of the season at which point he goes back to his old role most likely.

Different matter for the new head coach though, there needs to be more of a respectful distance between him and the players.

I think I'm living in a different world to people on here. I've called plenty of bosses by a contraction/nickname without it being an act of disrespect or a sign of unhealthy familiarity.

This is another one I just cannot understand. It's getting really odd around here.
It's alright, you get an instruction sheet when you pick up your pitchfork.

There's levels of outrage though. Some of us are trying, I hope, to point out problems constructively and level headedly. There are others who every single post is the same point over and over again though, without any attempt to soften or see other POV. Just vitriol.

Personally I wouldn't mind if Speakman left now for many reasons, but am not chasing him out.

I also think its unprofessional to refer to the manager with a nickname, even if I understand the reason why its happened.

You do have to wonder about the dynamics when a player calls the manager (or whatever) by a nickname. However, as I've said in an earlier post, it's not unusual. In this case, we all understand that it's not a normal player/head coach relationship. So, really, it's not worth anything more than a raised eyebrow and maybe a hope that they have a slightly different relationship with the 'permanent' head coach. Making an issue of it, in the current climate, just comes across as more of the relentless, tedious, petty nitpicking that has been going on for far too long and which I, and seemingly plenty of other people, are growing throughly sick of.
