Last point, when Beale got appointed, our Director of football left shortly afterwards so Beale was heading up everything, including scouting.

Might work out better at Sunderland as I’m reading your football dept is still in place. Keep Beale coaching and improving players and leave recruitment etc up to your Tech director.

Cantwell, Scott Arfield and a few others said Beale was the best coach they worked with so it’s not all bad.

The guy is a proper football man.
That’s like going into an old fashioned manager’s job having had only 22 games experience as a modern-day Head Coach

A huge amount of pressure even if it wasn’t with one of the Old Firm

This is one of the most underwhelming appointments they could have made at this point, imo.

Hope he gets results obviously but this whole process disproves the having a plan and someone lined up stuff Speakman blabbed on about last year.

Actually a bit concerned how this will go short term, personally.
That's only true if he wasn't one of the names they were actually after, just because we don't agree with the decision they have made doesn't mean he wasn't a possibility in their planning, I don't think he was first choice but I do think he was always an option they were considering

Just explained the situation to the Mrs who is a psychologist. She's very much of the opinion that if he's even half aware of the negativity it will have a massive impact on him. After that depends on his character. Growth mindset or fixed mindset.

I'm not a psychologist and pointed out how much he will probably be getting paid, what he must be expecting joining a club like Sunderland and how if he's worth his salt it should drive him on.

Apparently it doesn't work like that, time will tell :emoticon-0158-time:

I don't believe that for one minute

I wouldn't have either. But a contract that length implies the probably did, even if he wasn't at the top of it.

Mind, I know nowt about any of the names mentioned anyway. As with players; they can be record fees or free transfers, I just want to see them on our grass. Same with managers.

And of course, if MB was down the list, he is in good company. Post at Spurs this season is only the latest one from " down the list" to do well.

Well that’s that done. Let’s get on with the football. Whether we wanted him or not he’s here the club have made the decision. I don’t know enough about him to say whether it’s the right decision or not but he and the players will have my full support as always. Let’s get on with it and let’s get back to winning ways.

So they've interviewed everyone on their wanted list and either couldn't get them or didn't want them, so had a quick look and said oh Beale that was at Rangers hasn't got a job, we'll give it to him

I think it's pretty clear that the club have appointed Beale entirely out of spite ...

... there I've said it.

Sorry but it's obvious the club don't share the ambition of a section of our support who have much better ideas of how a football club should be run. This is a sad day for a once great club, until recently proudly flying low in L1 and fighting bravely against administration.

As we sit here with an exciting squad of talented players, close to the playoffs and with a big part of the season left to play we should all take a minute to think of our glorious recent past and what might have been.

Why KLD didn't just mortgage the SOL/AOL to the hilt, bring in a bunch of mercenaries and get us into a yearly fight against relegation relegation I'll never know <doh>

Just ignore the Internet would be my advice to anyone in football. It is a febrile and unpredictable constituency, awash with a lot of strange people who have become accustomed to thinking that tapping out a few phrases or words on a screen gives them credence.

Yep that's how I see it tbh. Apparently WS was up for the job but wanted his own backroom staff and we said no.
I know it's all conjecture. I also know just cos you're not first choice doesn't mean you won't do a good job. I hope he does.
