Last point, when Beale got appointed, our Director of football left shortly afterwards so Beale was heading up everything, including scouting.

Might work out better at Sunderland as I’m reading your football dept is still in place. Keep Beale coaching and improving players and leave recruitment etc up to your Tech director.

Cantwell, Scott Arfield and a few others said Beale was the best coach they worked with so it’s not all bad.

The guy is a proper football man.

Well a lot of very good people eulogise his coaching, and I think you're right in that here, his role will be purely player and team based.
So here's hoping he's a learner, which is likely as he's been doing this for twenty years or so.

I was wrong with the Mowbray appointment, no doubt I will be proved wrong with this appointment too.

I’m underwhelmed but only because I don’t know which way this will go. Don’t know if he’s gonna prove to be a coup and a bit of really clever business, as bad as Mcmenemy or somewhere inbetween. I don’t know what we’re getting in terms of his ability as a “head coach”

What is evident is that his coaching is highly rated by almost everyone who can speak with some knowledge of him.
He left QPR in the lurch for a bigger job and probably more pay ( so would most others)
He had the highest win rate at rangers but seemed to make mess of recruitment last summer.
Let’s hope he turns out to be our Kieran McKenna. He gets my full support until such time that it isn’t warranted anymore just like almost everyone else we’ve employed along the way

Not sure why people think we’ve got him because he’s cheap. He’s available yes but I he won’t have been on pennies at Rangers considering they had to pay £3.5m to sack Van Bronckhorst and now Clement has gone there on £50k a week..
It's because it's a lazy assumption that suits the narrative around the club not wanting to get promoted etc

People forget that Mowbray was the "cheap option" as was Alex Neil, Gus Poyet, Martin O'Neil, Mick McCarthy, Peter Reid etc etc

I’ll agree that I got angry that this frustratingly unambitious appointment was being considered. Living in Scotland I saw how poor Rangers were doing under him, and his appearances in front of camera were not inspiring either.

I would agree that in general the overall response has been a bit embarrassing, but being verbally abused, or undermined for having a different opinion on a forum is also bang out of order.

My thoughts were there must be better than Beale out there. I still think this is uninspiring, but if he turns out that he’s successful, no one will be more pleased than me.

‘frustratingly unambitious’ do you think KLD, Speakman, Harvey, Beales and Dodds could be described as this ? You may not have taken the same path, not sure I would, but to describe them as that is the emotive narrative that I struggle with. Why did they ask Beale back? Did you ever wonder that while you were living in Scotland ?

Fair play to Dreyfus and Speakman.
They certainly can’t be accused of cosying up to the supporters with a popular ‘name’ appointment.

However, They have managed to find someone almost nobody wanted here. (That takes some doing)

It’s my opinion, not Speakmans or anyone else’s. Or can I not have an opinion on a Forum.

Think he’ll do well. He’s got a great rep as a coach and he got our flair players playing at their best, albeit with a limited sample size of games, so he could do the same with yours. The Glasgow Rangers job was too big for him and this is probably as big a job as he was going to get.

Obviously I think he’s a fat nonce with a ridiculous mole and hope he fails miserably but that’s not a reflection on Sunderland.

To be fair to KLD and Speakman they don’t embarrass us all over social media and the RTG boards every day so I’ll side with them on this one.

He’s been given a contract until summer 2026 - which will be the end of the 5th season under KLD ownership iirc and the “deadline” for his 5 year plan to get us back in the PL. They think Beale is the man to do so and that’s good enough for me.

I’m sure your comments about him earlier will help him get off to a great start, making him feel so welcome.

Yeah. Agreed. I think it's quite arrogant of certain members of our fanbase to think they know better than the people who run the club when it comes to appointing a HC to get us back to the PL

Even tho a massive stretch we've gone from a few on here hoping for Potter early doors or we were massively linked with Still who has a big reputation and massive potential and possibly an X factor. Firstly there was the Farioli link...it made me think we were looking in a European multi lingual direction.
So to end up with MB...
Like an earlier poster said I hope I end up with egg on my face and that you all come at me...wouldn't be the first time.
But I truly hope he does a good job. I was equally underwhelmed with TM.
I admit I'm no expert and there are many of you who know better.
But it's my opinion.

Surely no-one seriously thought we had a chance of Potter?

In terms of the other names linked - they were exactly that - just linked and with no foundation. Lazy journalism from every other random on twitter these days who claims to be ITK

I don't need to be inspired by my Head Coach, I just want him to win some games - if he could sort out the defence and win some away games, then that would be spiffing
