Furthermore, why would he leave Portugal this year when there is the euros in the summer?

He won't, which is why I've said we will have to wait until the summer. He'll see out this season at Bayern and the Euros with Portugal. But there's a strong chance that he's a head coach at an English club next season.

Great . Where can I find the report that says he's our top target?

Euros are in July no? Hasn't pre season began by then?

Anthony Barry is the man.

He became assistant manager of Wigan in 2017 at the age of 31 and helped Paul Cook to win League One impressively.

He studied for his Pro licence alongside Frank Lampard in 2020 and qualified with the top marks in the group. He did a dissertation called "The undervalued set-piece" in which he analysed all 16,000+ throw ins taken in the Premier League over a year to conclude the optimal approaches. The dissertation was published. On the back of this, Lampard took him to Chelsea as his assistant.

He was a Chelsea assistant to Lampard, Potter and Tuchel with the latter describing his work on set pieces as "far more advanced than anything I've seen". Tuchel then persuaded Bayern to pay Chelsea compensation to take Barry with him there.

In addition to his club work, Barry has also been involved with international set ups. He was an assistant for Republic of Ireland before working for both Belgium and Portugal under Roberto Martinez.

Barry has turned down head coaching jobs in the past to develop himself as a coach, learning from the best and absorbing different cultures.

A 37 year old, hugely rated coach, with a background steeped in analysis, development, attention to detail and tactics.

We may have to wait until the end of the season to get him, but he's the top target.

This is an in depth article on his rise from Wigan to Chelsea if anyone wants to read more. He's very highly respected.

Where you heard he is a top target mate? Not doubting you just an interesting link and a name I’m not familiar with

Would you have confidence in his man management, coaching and tactics beyond set pieces?

Sorry if it’s covered in the article, I don’t subscribe to The Athletic.

It would be a risk taking him on but I personally think we need to take a risk if we want high rewards.

The Athletic article includes a number of players and staff who have worked with him giving him praise for all of these things. Tuchel and Martinez have both been keen to take him to multiple clubs/nations which speaks volumes too.

He's exactly the kind of bold appointment I can see this club making next (if it's planned rather than reactionary).

I know you’ve had a couple of bad results the last few weeks, but I’ll admit I was very surprised to see TM given the heave ho. Be interesting to see who ends up in charge.
