No. Surely that's made up, Neil can't be seriously thinking there is any chance!

It has to be this for me. Waiting could be the most disruptive thing they could do in the medium to long term.

Never in a million years. Very grateful to him for getting us out of the league however he showed his true colours in the way that he left.

Better offer on the table, so he though bollocks to the club that gave him another chance (even if it was a step down in his opinion), bollocks to the players and bollocks to the fans. Hope he never manages again.

Just out of interest, since Beale left last week, has there been any significant moves in the betting markets for our next Head coach? Usually there are large movers, but maybe the statement that KS made regarding Dodds been in charge for the rest of the season has quietened the market.
By saying it's Dodds for the season it takes the heat off KS and KLD to be under the intense media scrutiny, and maybe gives them a chance to work quietly in the background to get someone in sooner?

Nowt but a hunch, zero evidence, but I wonder if Speakman won’t be picking the new coach. I just have a gut feeling he’ll leave.

They didn't attract decent managers of Bundesliga level though.

Sheff Wed hired a coach who's never had the number 1 job anywhere before. He's turned out to be brilliant and Sheff Wed clearly did their research, but they didn't hire someone with a proven record at any level.

Huddersfield have hired a coach who lasted just 6 months in his Bundesliga job and has been out of work for a year. He's not going to get another job at the top level and Huddersfield already have a record in that market with David Wagner being their most successful manager in recent years.

I'm not saying they're not good appointments by the way, just that they haven't appointed proven quality.

I keep seeing him being mentioned but to me there is no chance Cooper comes here. He'd walk into at least a couple of PL jobs right now and if I was in charge of a relegated team with parachute payments he'd be one of my first calls. To me, he's a bit above our station. No harm in asking the question but I feel like some are setting themselves up for disappointment if that is the calibre of coach you expect us to hire.

Absolutely not. He did well for us and I don't even dislike him but you can't come back from the way he left. The trust is broken.

I'd be against it. However, Neil and KLD were pictured talking and laughing together I think it was either during a pre season or the world cup break so I don't think there's too much ill feeling there. He'd need to have one hell of a first press conference to get fans on side.

I think he's on the very brink of our possibilities. We won't be his first choice but if a couple of jobs don't go his way this summer, then he might be ready to try us. The Palace job has gone. He'll be hoping West Ham are interested but I think they will prefer high profile. I imagine Liverpool will hire from abroad so no available job there. After that, I'm not sure who might have their job under threat. Sheff Utd maybe available and England maybe available but Potter will probably be favourite for the latter.

Some of our fans are far too fragile for us to go near anyone with Newcastle connections in my opinion. Like it or not, it will be used against him and make the job harder than it needs to be.

Managers are primarily interested in money imo.

They may talk about their vision, admiration of the club, their sense of history, etc ... but cash talks to them.

Paying a manager enough to tempt them is one aspect but not the most important.

What's a bigger issue is what terms they want, how many of their own staff, what control over signings, etc.

The club were criticised when Neil walked but his 'total control' turned out to be a disaster for Stoke.

    It's a delicate balance.

I don't think there's anything he'd be embarrassed to print tbh.

No manager/head coach should be given total control. It doesn't work in modern football. However, we really need to improve the connection between the recruitment team and the coaching staff because Neil, Mowbray, Beale and even Dodds to an extent have mentioned the same things in terms of needing a bit of know how in the squad. We aren't far away and I truly believe we are on the right track we just need some tweaks.
